Maurice Clarett denied into the NFL draft by Supreme Court

I can't believe the SC even wastes time with SHIAT like this...nevermind the fact that they had to call an 'emergency session' to have this case reviewed before draft day.

I would have actually been more pleased had he been allowed into the draft, but nobody picked him. That would have been priceless.

From what I've read, that could have been a good possibility.

I sure he would have sued all 32 teams in the NFL for "denying him the right to earn a living."

that wouldve been funny, but i bet he wouldve been picked up in the 3rd or 4th.
RBs are very thin this year.
but, he wouldnt have amounted to crap in the NFL.

Mike Williams' situation i find laughable as well.
and he expects sympathy...he just saw $ signs in his eyes.
ha ha.

Thank goodness I'm not the only reasonable person left in the world. 🙂

Mike Williams situation isnt funny. Hes being screwed over by the NFL and the NCAA. He has just as good of chance as any of the other top 5 WRs in the NFL draft to be extremely successufl.

As for Clarett, HE WOULD have been drafted, but probably not till the late 2nd round or early 3rd.

The NFL will lose on this eventually. They just appealed quickly so he wouldn't be allowed entry in to this years draft. I have no problem with underclassmen in the draft. It won't turn into an NBA situation, as less players are developed enough to go early, but some, like Maurice Clarett and Mike Williams are.

I disagree with the statements that Maurice wouldn't amount to anything, or even "he wouldn't get picked". He had a good workout, and showed good knowledge of blocking schemes and offensive schemes. Mike Williams not entering the draft screws teams looking to draft a WR. Less depth means less chances a good WR will fall to the later picks.

I'm pissed at the NFL about this, among other things.

Williams gambled and lost.
you gamble and lose, you deserve no sympathy.
he knew the risks involved in doing this.

You say that like he will never be drafted/play.

Uh, you dont know how the Supreme Court works. They didnt call an "emergancy session". Each justice is assigned a region. In this case, Ginsberg was the justice that is for the region the case was filed in. After the original filing with the Supreme Court, the one justice either, accepts the case, and stays the lower court ruling, accepts the case but doesnt stay the ruling, have the entire supreme court hear the case, then decide to accept it or not, or the justice decides not to take the case.

Ginsberg ordered the NFL to file their arguements, she then made the decision, not to stay the case.

he wont.
when was the last time he played a game of organized football?
he was not that great at ohio state.
he couldnt even make it through one college season without getting hurt.
and he expects to compete in the NFL.
hjahha

Oh..and the NCAA is going to screw both Clarett and Williams by not allowing them to play anymore. They didn't make jack, but since they had an agent and all that..boom, inelligible.

Hopefully they will find their ways into the CFL and show the world they can play, and then get picked up by an NFL team.

I wouldn't count on this not turning into the NBA. At one point the NBA had fundementals, now it's mostly one on one ugly offensive basketball. It's a direct result of inexperienced, untrained young players coming into the league. I read an article a couple months ago where the journalist stated that the top HS football player in America (a center out of Colorado) was ready for the NFL. It will only take one or two to make it, then the draft gets flooded with 17 & 18 year olds. Skill levels come down, play suffers and before you know it, we're watching a HS football game on Monday Night Football.

I'm all for capitalism, but this scenario has always sat uneasily for me.

#1 - Clarett isn't even in school anymore. He dropped out in the winter, so the NCAA didn't screw him

#2 - Rules are rules. If I was going to sacrifice my college eligibility by declaring for the draft, I would be DAMNED sure that I was actually going to be eligible for it. Williams should have been a little smarter. Getting into the draft was never a sure thing for an underclassmen.

Additionally, if Williams would have waited to sign with an agent, he would still be eligible to return. Correct?

Clarett dropped out because he was going to transfer to a Division 2 school. If his court case failed. He won the court case in district court, so he then declared for the draft. He would have been enligble next season, but would have still had two more season of eligiblity IIRC. As it is now, he is permanently ineligible.

As for Williams, he has a legit case to be made eligible again, and it can happen. Clarrett is screwed because of his past infractions.

Sorry, but I disagree. Less players will be ready for the NFL than in the NBA. NFL teams will know this. Also, the NFL has much larger rosters, which will allow teams to draft the extremely skilled young players, and put them on practice squads or have them as backups. It would be very rare for a younger player to come in an make an impact right away.

Also, so often now, you get 24-25 year olds in the draft, due to redshirts and the such. Why can't it work the other way? When a 25 year old gets drafted, depending on position, you get 10-12 years of solid play out of that player. Say an 18 year old gets drafted, you'd get a good 18-20 years of play, again, depending on position.
