MAU3147 or Atlas 15k

smart decision, late choice. i thought you already got yourself a raptor...or i just made it up 😛. anywho, go with the maxtor (or my Seagate's 😛)
 

Maxtor Atlas 15K II

and should I get the PCI E scsi card or will a PCI suffice

I heard PCI E eliminates bottleneck..
 
Well, spending money on a top of the line SCSI card and dumping it in a PCI slot is kind of a waste.

But for one drive, there will be no difference. I vote for just a PCI U160 card.
 
Neither, I currently own a Maxtor Atlas 15K II, and though it is a great drive, if I was buying today, I would go with the new Raptor 150 which is faster than anything SCSI for a desktop user.

broly - personally i would get a u160 card, put it in a pci slot and get the mau3147. the "seat of the pants" feel you get from 15k is noticeable. u320 is backwards compatible with u160 and since the hdd won't max out the pci bus, it is ok for one 15k hdd. you can pick these cards, like the lsiu160 up for ~$30 🙂
 
the mau ios very expensive i cannot find a great used one against DOA with 5 year warranty liek i can with the atlas 2

ican get the atlas 2 for 400 canadian opposed to the mAU for 1500

nevermind, for that price difference get the atlas II the difference is not large and you will not notice it, if they were the same price i would get the fujistu, but since they are not don't worry about it.

also are you getting the 68pin or 80pin drive?

Won in what sense? Looking at SR Office DriveMark 2006 & SR High-End DriveMark 2006 it was severe ownage. Not to mention the price difference between the drives versus performance difference... it lost terribly.

scsi hdds are not the same as the pata/sata items you find at your local best buy. they are true enterprise hdds meant for mission critical systems, and the maxtors scsi hdds do not suck.

your statement shows your true lack of knowledge for the given thread.
