You should have just done nothing to see how long you could go before getting canned.

Hope you got some gas money!

Today, in the meeting with the HR person and him, we came to a decision that my last day would be May 8th, and that he'll be happy to provide me an amazing reference to another job.

I've decided that I'm going to leave Boston on May 8th, temporarily, and drive all around the country for a month. No plan. No real schedule. Just gonna do it.

I have bills, sure. But I also have money saved and I can afford to live for a month or two on little to no income.

So we shall see how it goes. It starts.

I wish you all the best, but what was the point of showing your color by telling your bosses that you don't like your job?

Today's corp world, you're easily replacable and dispensible. Keep the cards hidden to yourself as much as possible.

If you don't like your job and see that nothing good will come out from it, then give two weeks notice when you get the next job. Don't tell them you're not happy. They're not therapists. You're putting yourself at the risk of getting fired.

Luckily it worked out very well for OP.

Piscataway (it's that-a-way). It's not a chain or anything, just a single location sports bar.

Yes. I found myself, and I just post stupid posts on AT instead of stupid threads.
I save those for another forum.

Why quit, he obviously can go on a road trip and the home office would never know. I feel a new thread coming on. :)

Well I don't know about OP, but I could care less if I got fired. My reasoning would be to not burn any bridges. This is how I feel, this is what I'm gonna do. Do you need extra time to get more help? K, I'll stay on a bit longer. Want to term me now? k no biggie lol

A few years back (ok 19) I was living in South Florida and hating my job and my life. I saved up as much as I could for 6 months or so, then embarked on a trip around the country. I was on the road 15 weeks, drove 15K miles and was in 34 states. Spent a lot of time in National Parks. It was absolutely the coolest thing I ever did. Have a great trip!

Of course I'm not burning any bridges. I will most likely stay on and do contracting/consulting work remotely.

I hope you have a great time!

I'd love to go with you, but I'm strapped for cash right now. I've got a car payment for another 3 years.

Hopefully I can pay it off within this year and then just put some money away for a nice long trip!

If ANYONE wants to join me, I'm game! I've got a honda civic manual 5 speed that gets great gas mileage! Bring on the adventure!!

Stop by in Philly, we'll have a beer and food at Kildare's in King of Prussia!

Edit: I've always been jealous of this type of trip and wanted to do one. Unfortunately, I have too many debts to do it now :(

I too have a lot of credit card debt. But I will never be happy if I don't do this.

Make sure you don't come to Texas. I notified a team to patrol the border and they will shoot on sight.

Happiness and job do not always go together. Suck it up. Most people around the world have far worse jobs, and work much longer hours doing things they probably don't enjoy.

That being said, the Northeast cities can put a damper on happiness. Its too much noise, traffic and people obsessed with consumption.

I drove through the country last year. Being from the Northeast, its an eye opening experience. In the Midwest, time is slower, there is no traffic outside of the cities, the air quality is better, and if you go further west, the Rocky Mountains are amazing. The east and west coasts are pretty much the same, especially within the large cities. For a real adventure, drive from Boston to Alaska. If the OP is relocating, the city-data forums can give you some ideas that would suit your lifestyle.
