Hmm, the Radeon does some bitch slapping in 32bit color, but it sucks ass in 16bit

Reminds me of the pentium pro...

Great at 32 bit stuff - suck at 16 bit.

Looks like ATI 'almost' pulled an athlon out of their magic hat... Its a bit expensive though - I'm hoping for a highly destructive price war that forces better chips sooner and drives prices thru the floor. :)

A friend of mine (who is the head of another website) says that dual chip Radeons will be here in a short while :p

I hope for their sake that ATi has some decent Win2k support. God don't like ugly ;)

Woah...the Anandtech servers are REALLY busy right now. I keep getting timeout errors, and can't even complete reading the preview/review!

yeah they were down/slow for a while :(

hmmm...nice card, but MAN does FSAA suck! Quality-wise it lies between no FSAA and the 1st quality setting on the Geforce which is pretty damn low. plus it's slow as hell.

NVIDIA had the time to implement a "software hack", so why couldn't ATI? oh well, we'll see what driver updates will bring

And they still ream AMD/VIA systems...they need to get their act together in the driver department and stop rehashing old sh!t

But Hey, you got to admit - at least ATI didn't screw up this time. They put out a great card out ON TIME at a competitive price. Upgrade source has the 64MB DDR for sale for like $288 or something, not bad unless that price is wrong.

And with the driver issues, I don't think ATI will be as bad as Savage on that, they'll get them straightend out.

Ohh, and where's Trinitron?? 'Cause I'm gonna slap him across his face :p

Trinitron

<< ATi build high quailty cards, and never has exaggerated on the specs of a card, later lowering them. The Radeon will be a top notch card, just wait and see >>

From the Review:

<< Despite the addition of some additional features that were not present at the product launch, one card spec actually took a turn for the worse. At WINHEC, ATI told us of a card that would have an impressive memory and core speed of 200 MHz. Well, as speed specs often do, ATI decreased the core and memory clock specs for the shipping Radeon. Due to what seems to be the unavailability of 5 ns DDR SDRAM, ATI was forced to take 5.5 Ns DDR SDRAM, putting the memory clock speed at 183 MHz DDR (366 MHz effective). The core speed, either due to less than expected yields or just ease, is also shipping at the 183 MHz mark. As we will see in the benchmarking section, pushing up the core really does not result in any performance increase due to extensive memory bandwidth limitations. >>

ROTFLMAO!! :p

After reading the review...I think i soiled myself. :(

32bit speeds are amazing! So is FSAA speeds. :)

Dual of this chip?! OMG, give nVidia and 3dfx soooome pride. ;) hehehe

nVidia head,"But...but...but...nooo! ATi SUCKS! How can they have a video card that spanks nVidia's at 32bit, fsaa, have real hardware DVD decoding, and ViVo...for about the same price! AGHHH!!! <gun shot>"

;)

heheh

Nice review. Nice to see ATi finally getting a product out to compete with nVidia and 3dfx. That review sure hurt the servers though! They were so slow and not working and now they are working but it is still slow. The best thing about that card is 32bit color! Omg! Even at the highest resolutions, it is about a 2fps decrease from 16bit color in most games so there is absolutely no reason to not run at 32bit color. I don't think I'll get it though, or even the GF2 GTS for that matter. Why? Well I simply don't have the money, doubt the GF2 GTS or Radeon will be that great on a Celeron 550, and I think I'll wait till the NV20 and see how that is, maybe they will finally eliminate that memory bandwidth issue.

The 64Mb version is begging me to get tit but for $400 bucks, hell no!!!!!! ATI is preaching about prices and fails to realize that the card is exremely expensive. I think I'll keep my voodoo3 for now. The TV out function still works great.

That MAXX version is gonna kick some ass...but it won't be here for a while. NV20 should be stirring up by then.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see. Ohh, what was the performance difference between the MAXX and the single chip version? Was it double the performance?
