Mattress recommendations?

Hey all,

I just bought a house (closed on the 15th) and I need to get a new mattress.

I'm thinking queen sized for the mattress.

Does anyone in the ATOT community have one of those foam mattresses? You know, the ones they have at brookstone (I think they call them nasa space foam or swedish foam). I was thinking about one of those, but I wonder how comfortable they are and would like some opinions on that as well as other mattresses folks have.

i prefer queen size, we have a king that my mother in law gave us, but the queen we bought 10 years ago is better

i like the "normal" traditional mattresses, none of this air/foam funky stuff
 
Stay away from these newfangled 20" deep mattresses. What a stupid idea! My wife just HAD to have a new mattress after 20 years, though I didn't see anything wrong with the old one 😉, so we ended up with this monstrosity. It was way too tall for our traditional bed, which is already pretty high off the floor. We had to special order a slim box spring to bring the height down to something more reasonable, which is still too high. Now, we also have to buy special fitted sheets for the stupid thing. Retarded. Just so fvcking retarded... :disgust:
 
Wow... I didn't even KNOW about 20" thick mattresses! Not that I keep up on mattress technology...

Anyone else have an recommendations / brands / opinions?

Get a LATEX mattress... they cost near 2000 bones but you will get in a millions bones before its time to change the mattresses.
 
don't bother with a pillow top. it gets flattened well before the rest of the mattress gives out.
 
A mattress is an investment. Don't be cheap.

I have a queen size Sterns and Foster and love it!

I paid about $850 for it.
 
Firstly, dont skimp on quality, no matter the price.

You can go to Brookstone's and lay on the bed you mean. They have one in the showroom. Usually you will have to wait till the person on it wakes up, but if you are patient you can try it out 😉

We got a King size Stern's and Foster's mattress four years ago. It was expensive imho. We paid $2,000. for the mattress, and with the box spring and frame it came to almost $3,800. (the most expensive S&F's in the showroom ran just under $9,600.!! )I could never afford something like that on my own, so it was a gift from my b/f. We decided on this bed because... well to be honest, we were new at the time and wanted our own bed and while shopping we tried just about every mattress in three different stores. When we hit the S&F's store, they guy was telling my b/f why it was worth the money.... I sat on one and within 4 minutes I was asleep in the showroom. Pretty good since I have suffered from insomnia for about 15yrs. We bought the bed, and I have never slept better in my life. And it comes with a 25yr. no Q? asked warranty. We used that already after the 2nd yr. one stitch came loose (I am sure it was one of my cats) and they just replaced the entire mattress.

Don't skimp!

We bothered with a pillow top since we got a good deal from a friend who worked at Sleepy's. It's been a year so far and we love the difference. Much better than the conventional mattresses.

We'll just have to wait and see if it does flatten out, but it's still nice with an extra cushion to help comfort.
