He's going to early-quit a lucrative Governorship position in order to be a personality on a startup right-wing news media outlet.

Sounds like more of a How Can I keep My Ass Out of Prison move.
 
WaPo explains these allegations, and Gaetz's bizarre defense, pretty well.


Here is a quote from the guy he said was extorting his father to make these allegations go away:

During the Fox News interview, Gaetz identified the former official as David McGee. McGee spoke with The Post about the charge, saying that Gaetz’s father, Don Gaetz, had reached out to him.

“It is completely false. It’s a blatant attempt to distract from the fact that he’s under investigation for sex trafficking of minors,” McGee told The Post. He said he had no connection to the case other than being “one of a thousand people who have heard the rumors.”

Yeah, Gaetz also said that Trump was a great POTUS, and that the election was stolen from him. Who you gonna believe?

After that bizarre, cringe-worthy interview where Fucker is clearly trying to distance himself from Gaetz, I would bet cash he's worried about just such a scenario. Then again, might bolster his status with trumpists for his upcoming presidential bid. Trump's cult has no issue with statutory rape and sexual assault after all.

And yet, neither the DOJ or FBI has said anything -- amid repeated requests from media organizations to do so. (Worth noting for people alleging that this is a political hit on Gaetz, a major ally of former President Donald Trump: The investigation began in the final months of the Trump presidency, while Bill Barr was still the Attorney General.)
Of course, the silence -- at least at the moment -- from the DOJ and FBI isn't conclusive vis a vis Gaetz. Ongoing investigations are rarely commented on. But ongoing investigations very rarely deal with a very high-profile member of Congress like Gaetz who is telling anyone who will listen that this is all a sham and he is the real victim.

Crap like that is so creepy. Why would someone find that acceptable to post on social media? Also I find it incomprehensible that a 38 year old man would want to have intimate relations with a 17 year old girl. I look at those pictures and those girls look lie babies.

Gaetz said that his father was contacted by a former federal prosecutor by the name of David McGee, and that McGee tried to blackmail his father for $25 million in order to make these allegations against Gaetz go away.

You know whose silence here truly is odd? Gaetz' own father, who has not stepped up to confirm that this blackmail attempt occurred.

Gaetz is almost certainly lying.

Fair enough. I just wanted to point out that it is awfully strange that Gaetz' own father has not stepped up to corroborate the blackmail allegation. At least not yet, so far as we know.

This does not bode well for Gaetz' credibility.

He better be able to back that up or Gaetz is going to join the defamation club along with Fox News, the pillow guy, etc. That's a very specific factual allegation.

Well, if Gaetz had credibility to start with...

And think about it: if Gaetz is making this up, he's throwing his own father under the bus to a degree — either he turns on his own son or has to play along with the ruse.

Also the fact that it was opened under Bill Barr of all people tells you Gaetz is in trouble.

I mean if the guy who lied to the entire country about how the Mueller Report said Trump was innocent won't cover for you, you're in trouble.
