Hrm, maybe I don't read this forum as much as I used to, but it suprised me when I heard Electric Amish say, "Those of you with Geforce4's just bought a nice little paperweight..." I don't recall EA being the type to throw the first match in a flame fest. So, I guess I'm a bit confused.

It is hard for me to swallow such a comment with a GF4 sitting on my counter and a new Matrox card not even in stores. It is even harder to believe that when this Parhelia card comes out it will eclipse the GF4 by so much that the GF4 is no longer able to run current games (thus making it a paperweight). If I can buy a GF4 and it runs every game perfectly, what would make this new Parhelia so special or REQUIRED that it turns my GF4 into a paperweight? Oh, wait, so you see what I'm getting at then?

Whether or not a new Matrox card comes out, the GF4 will continue running everything excellently. And if / when the Matrox card comes out, there will probably be competition for it (OBVIOUSLY). It's not like Matrox just reinvented the wheel, no matter how you wish it to be so. And if the card actually does come out, chances are I will have had my GF4 for plenty of time and it would be time for a new upgrade anyways.

So, after all this, my curiousity leads me to ask one more question: Electric Amish, Does Matrox tip you to say crap like this or did nVidia steal your girlfriend?

i'll believe it when i see it, but i do know that MURC is a bit more responsible about posting rumors than many other sites have been, so i trust them a bit more. g800 did exist, but matrox thought it would be too far behind (or perhaps not far enough ahead?) so released the stripped-down g550. we can assume they haven't just been sitting on their arses. the question is if they have enough engineers to get the product out before it gets passed over. a few members seem pretty certain that this will happen, but daveb3d was certain 3dfx's v5 follow-up was going to whip nvidia's arse, and that didn't happen.

I get nothing from Matrox. The products based on Nvidia chips do not meet my 2d quality standards, and Nvidia, as a company, is filled with corporate raiders that stole engineers and technology from Matrox.

With that out of the way, I'm not saying that the GF4 will not be able to run current games. Hell, my G400 runs current games. I'm saying that the Parhelia will totally eclipse the GF4 in EVERY aspect of perfromance and technology.

The R300 will not compete. The NV30, depending on release,...we'll see when it becomes a little less ethereal.

You are right, I'm not usually the first to start something "fanboi-ish" like this, so that alone should tell you that I have information that convinces me to do so at this time.

My sources are giving the Parhelia a BIG, BIG thumbs up. I wish they'd give me more information, but NDA's are the devil's own work, as we all know.

Yea, I thought of that Anand was hiting about maybe Matrox has showed him something. I dunno, but I have to admit, I can't think of anyone else Anand might have been reffering to. I suppose we'll see. I'm not keeping my hopes up, but I must admit that Anand hinting like this and then what Johan has told us at Ace's Hardware, it's difficult dismiss these 2. Again, like AGodSpeed said, until an offical announcment from Matrox is made, it's all vapor ware, but we can hope, and pray, and that's that.

I don't like Creative too but I'm just saying the Creative/3D Labs card may also be a likely candidate. Btw, I'm using my G400DH to type this so you know where I stand.

pick one from matrox, bitboys, S3(via - kyro chipset), SIS or perhaps the new trident chipset.

It is likely that Anand is referring to Matrox in the budget video article, simply because out of all the known companies that are or are capable of developing 3D technology, Matrox is most likely to launch a chip now.

STM/PowerVR/Kyro - Unlikely to bring out a new part while going through major business problems.
Via/S3 - New part was due Q4 01 but the last I heard it was delayed a year, will probably wait to use Kyro technology instead.
Intel - Intergrated graphics core is known to have the performance of a Geforce 2MX, definately no competition
ATI/Nvidia - Anand referred to a third manufacturer
SiS - Already announced their new 315/330, performance unknown but Anand would have ben able to talk about it in the article
3DLabs/Creative - New part was expected in Q4 02, unlikely to be showing anything so soon
Trident - Recently announced a DX9 mobile part in press release, "intimated that the XP4 core may mark Trident's return to the desktop graphics market", so theres no NDA there either
BitBoys - Rumors about working silicon...but I'd trust a rumor about Matrox over a BitBoys one any day

I know you've all been waiting for a long time and in 3 years, we'll all go thru this again . Just remember that the debugging process of a chip and pcb does not happen in a few weeks. It takes a long time to do this in order to ensure stability at launch.

Bluemax i'm sure most people would rather have the CHOICE to buy something modern rather being presented with ONLY 1, 2, 3 year old technology.

Frequent product improvements is definately a better business strategy on every level.

i haven't run into any game that my ti200 can't play with good speed. so count me out of the 4200 crowd. i can imagine GTS and slower people buying them up.

I can't.

My friend has a GTS and it runs everything just fine. Hell, my G400 still runs everything playable.

Even $200 every 6 months is pretty crazy, IMO.
