Hardware:

Your making the assumption that #9 was ever in the same light as Matrox... that is wrong. Matrox and ATi are considered by many corporate people as the "intel" of video cards. They wouldnt switch to Nvidia even if they had to... its that whole brand loyalty... you know what I mean I am sure. Anyway, Its like saying, sure a tbird is better than a cumine so they should buy that. More goes into the buying process for a business... but anyway thats getting of on a tangent. Back to your point... ATi and Matrox are not selling cards to "survive" like you say, in fact I would venture to say that ATi has as much, if not more, capital as Nvidia, its just that they specialize in different things. Get off that Nvidia high horse for it will fall some time (very soon I predict). When Matrox, ATi and 3dfx get their sh!t together (seems ATi has already done so) Nvidia will have more competition than ever... we shall see if they compete in this time of competative arena... its much harder to beat 3-4 other companies, than it is to only deal w/ one (3dfx). Plus Matrox/ATi are much more reputable than 3dfx and Nvidia...

Example of a typical conversation with Hardware:

Hardware: The sky is purple!!!

John Doe: What are you talking about, the sky is blue. Look out the window. See? The sky is blue.

Hardware: The sky is purple!!!!!!!!!!!!

John Doe: You have no idea what you're talking about! The presence of nitrogen in the atmosphere scatters sunlight of certain frequencies, making the sky appear blue.

Hardware: The sky is purple!!!!!! Physics is dumb!!!!

John Doe: What are you talking about? You're not making any sense!

Hardware: The sky is purple!!!!! The last nail is in its coffin!!!!!!!!!!!!

John Doe: AHHHH!

Hardware: The sky is purple!!!!!!!!! It doesn't even have trilinear filtering!!!!!!!!

(John Doe proceeds to commit suicide after realizing the futility of trying to converse with Hardware).

LMAO@Sohcan, Aint it the truth.;) Could it be that he just doesn't want to accept the facts that we bring forth to him? :Q I'm telling you guys Hardware and that guy Auric are the same person. I hope the Mods checks their IP out. Zealots?

ReMeDy,

How did you find out that Hardware and Auric are the same person? I mean not assuming that they have same opinions.

<< matrox has to sell cards to survive like ati and 3dfx so the gamer market is important!
Take a look at number nine they thought the same "who cares about 3d we have good business cards" and they went out of business!
>>

LOL... this is funny!

ati doesn't have the fastest gaming cards does it? never has (readon excluded) yet has the largest OEM share... thus the biggest market... :)

you look at the benchmarks and complain that g450 is crap at 3d..

well someone going into buy a dell, gateway etc etc will happily be able to play q3 etc with this card. :)

the cards you are compairing it too are 'hardcore, high end gaming cards' which most people do not need. :)

2d is still very important, just cos it isn't to you doesn't make it so. :)

DOG NABBIT!!!

This is something to consider!!! The Mhz rating of a RAMDAC has absolutly no bearing on image quality!!!

The Mhz is simply the speed at which it can convert the digital data to an analog signal. With that said, to provide a higher refresh rate, you need to convert data faster, hence faster RAMDACs. At higher resolutions you have more data to processes, hence a faster RAMDAC is needed. This is why the 200Mhz RAMDAC only does 1600X1200 maximum. But the 360Mhz does 2048X1526X32@85Hz.

Image quality is a matter of how precise the RAMDAC is at creating the analog signal. Maxtor RAMDACs are the best around, except cards that cost in the 4 digits. I have a Matrox 4MB PCI Millenium Storm with a 150Mhz RAMDAC. And guess what, at its maximum resolution (a product of the speed) it is clearer and crisper, more vibrant colors, than my GeForce2 GTS at the same resolution and refresh rate.

That quality is a fact of the RAMDAC being better quality, not faster.

Hope this clears things up for people who think the GeForces 350Mhz RAMDAC is better than the 150Mhz RAMDAC on a almost 6 year old video card. The old matrox is better quality, but less capable.
