When is the 800 expected?

The G450 was never ment for games, its only an improved G400. G800 on the other hand will be a different story :D

Matrox has always been known for their good and stable drivers.

WHAT????

I thought it's supposed to be the other way around.

I guess the 800 should be twice as fast as this ala 5500-->6000

I'm disappointed that the second RAMDAC is only 200Mhz. You can't hook up a decent monitor to it. :(

I tell you, if the G800 is twice this speed, I won't be impressed

Yeah your right man but one of the rumors were that it was going to be tilebased rendering like kyro i guess. Thor it is 200 on the second monitor output.

Yep, the only problems with the g400 drivers were the very beta drivers. The G200 was not meant to do 3d, so you can't complain about that. :p

Reading the article now...

I didn't read all the mumbo jumbo...went right to the benchies...where are the D3d benchmarks? The G400 series is GREAT in d3d...but not so great in openGL. The G400 max really layed the smackdown on the tnt2u and also a also a lil lead on the geforce SDR...

Gimme UT D3D benchmarks...

90% of games are D3D...only Q3a, Heavy Metal FAKK2, and a few other games are OpenGL.

Arg...

Honestly, who here played Q3a more than UT or some other game? I'd bet about 8-10%...thats not that convincing enough for it to be the only REAL WORLD benchmark....at least in my opinion.

I wonder which card Anand was hinting at in his Geforce Ultra review? If the G800 is twice as fast as the 450 it can't hold a candle to the Super Duper Geforce Ultra. Well I'll just wait and see since it's supposed to cost only $300.

Not interested.

As far as I'm concerned a Riva 128 should be enough for business, or at the most the more than 2 years old g200. It sucks too much to do anything else. If they put 4 of these on one board, it wouldn't hold a candle to the Geforce 2 Ultra (which is the pricerange of a board with that many chips).

The g800 will be 4x as powerful as this card in raw fillrate, and will be using a memory scheme that we have yet to been filled in on. You see, each g800 chip is 2x as powerful, and the g800 is a dual chip card.

Wow this thing sux. Even with triple the performance it would only just begin to approach the old Geforce. Don't hold out for the G800 is my advice. Not unless it at least doubles performance and they slap two of 'em together for $250. I like the revisionist comments by Matroxphiles saying the G450 was never meant for games. Well, true as it is just an "improved" (mosty for Matrox's bottom line) G400 however the G400 was touted heavily for games but just did not deliver. The G450 is only of interest to financial and graphics businesses. But if it costs more than $130 when it comes out chances are the Geforce 2 MX will make it look pretty silly.

-
Sephiroth_IX, that is interesting because I have not followed the details of Matrox's upcoming stuff and was just wildly speculating on the doubled performance and dual chip thing. Funny. :p

Auric, the G800 is a brand spankin new chip. It is gonna have T&A...errrr...T&L, a new memory scheme, realllly bitchin' fast DDR, a dual chip board, the works...

It will be more than double g450...

No I have not seen them side by side on the same monitors. The Geforce is not known for quality however. I have read that the Radeon has the best quality bar none. But really, how much difference could there be? Still, for businesses buying in bulk Matrox will have a hard time justifying a premium over the MX. Not that I give a rat's ass.
