Matrox have today confirmed that the new card will run at approx 220mhz. With the massive memory bandwidth available it seems like we wont see true performance until 0.13 versions are available as the card is likely to be very gpu limited. Anyone agree?

That has to be false as I can't believe that Matrox would clock their card so low. Also IIRC Matrox doesn't have a habit of giving out clock frequencies of their products.

Where did you read this?

If it is true then this card's performance is definitely going to disappoint a lot of people.

'Got an email from Sebastian Macdougal, PR man at Matrox, this morning. The Parhelia is expected to ship at around a ~220Mhz Gclock. With .15um and 80 million transistors, that's pretty good.'

I personally am wondering on both fillrate and heat those 80million transistors are going to produce.

I really find this development rather disturbing. With only a 220 MHz clock the card is going to have real problems keeping up with a 300 MHz Ti4600, even with the Parhelia's massive memory bandwidth advantage. I hope isn't the case, for Matrox's sake.

Still, maybe it won't be an issue and those extra pipelines will certainly help.
