Martix. Saw the first one 4 times in the theater. Saw the second one once on DVD. No desire to see the third.

Star Wars. Seen the original 3 hundreds of times. Seen the newest two multiple time sin the theater and multiple times on DVD. Eagerly awaiting the next one.

Original Star Wars > New Star Wars > Matrix

First off, the Matrix series SUCKED. The first one was ok, but that is it. Secondly, take a look at the era. Watch the original Star Wars movie and then go rent ANY other sci-fi movie in that time. It is like night and day. Star Wars was waaaay ahead of its time. I watch it now and STILL can't believe it was made in the 70s'. Empire was my favorite though. 😉
Star Wars ain't sci-fi, it's little kiddie fantasy BS. Matrix is serious sci-fi that got bloated and bogged down with special effects. Probably to try and appeal to the A.D.D. generation "Y" crowd.

Starwars is a cultural phenomenon. Can you say the same about the Matrix?

Correct. Look at the staying power of Star Wars a quarter of a century later. How many people don't know at least a little bit about Star Wars? I enjoyed the first Matrix movie but what legacy has it left us other than constant parodies and copycats doing slow mo action shots with objects whizzing by them?? You need more than that to generate renewed interest 25 years in the future.

I honestly think the reason most people don't like the last two Matrix movies is because they can't understand them. Like Donnie Darko to a lesser extent I think some of it's left for you to interpret. I guess some Star Wars fanboys just can't handle anything besides an obvious plot 😎

I have no problem with the philosophical ambiguities of the third film. I have a problem with its exceptionally poor war-movie cliches, the way it contradicts elements of the established continuity of the first two films (if Neo and Trinity can get a ship above the cloud cover layer, why can't the machines? How could an EMP device, which is clearly shown in other films to be a short-range weapon, eradicate an entire cavern of attacking machines?), and the way it all but glosses over the choice Neo makes at the end of the second film.

It was also pointed out to me that structurally, The Matrix Revolutions bears more than a passing resemblance to Return of the Jedi, although I don't hold that against it.

IMHO the Matrix trilogy blows away the original Star Wars trilogy. What do you guys think?

If you are under 18, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you are just ignorant. If not, you deserve a good beating for even suggesting such a thing.
I'd say that is accurate.
