ps, i think a big part of why matrix was rated R were the idea's expressed in the movie. Becuase, heck, the matrix could be real... it takes a mature person to come out of that movie not being paranoid as hell

Yep, that was about all I could think of - the dark and not overly optimistic overtones that the movie presented. Still, why should atmosphere and abysmal perceptions of the future be basis of rating?

I never could understand why they rated the first one R either. About the same time as that one, MI:2 came out, and it had a ton of action and violence. It had more sexual content than The Matrix, also, and it was only rated PG-13. I don't see that rating as being a detriment to the quality of the movie.

I almost exclusively go see R rated movies. Can't stand watching candy coated B.S. I better hear cussing, I better see violence, and sex is definately something I want to see. Its more realistic that way.

more realistic, sure... movies are all hyperrealistic anyway. real cars don't blow up when they crash, hero's do die, and if every person had as much sex as a James Bond they'd all have syphallis and die of AIDS. Reality and the reality of movies are not the same thing.

PG-13s these days, are no different than R movies made back in the day.

True but if they were rated R based on todays standards then that would be some good stuff to look forward to.

its suggesting a conspiracy, and a lot of people get reealy angry when they think they are being manipulated... Remember the 'trench coat gang'? Weren't they mimicking the little gang in teh matrix?

Maybe it was to keep brats out of the theatre so it was a more enjoyable experience for the rest of us. 🙂

I never really understood why the first one was rated "R" myself either. Yeh, there was lots of gunfire and people being shot, but it wasn't anything graphic like blood splattering against the wall or entrails hanging out of their bodies. If the Matrix were to play on non-cable TV stations VERY little would have been cut out of it.

I'm just really confused about it 😕

I saw a TV-edited version. "Ya that sounds like a good deal. I've got a better one though. How about I give you the flicker (*hear fingers snap*), and you give me my phone call"

Not much else was cut out though. I just thought the above was pretty funny given the point in the movie.
