I'm almost done dling the Ghost in the Shell:Stand Alone Complex. there's 14 parts so far and i need like 3. I'll watch it all when i get it dl'ed completely.
But after work today i will be popping in the Ghost in the Shell tape.

In "Neoromancer", the computer/neural network that Gibson created is even called "the matrix."

And this is was written in 1984 people! 1984!!!

Neuromancer may have been great when it was written, but when I read it last year, it was terrible. The writing made no sense at times, you were expected to figure too much stuff out for yourself. Seeing as it was written pre-internet, and I read it post-internet, my knowledge may have interfered with the story, but seriously, I'd never read that book again.

I don't think a lot of the Matrix came from any one source. They've even said they've had a LOT of influences over literture, movies, anime, comic books, etc.

So while they may have mentioned specific things, like someone said Ghost in the Shell, I don't watch Ghost thinking, hey, Matrix is a live action remake of this.

Borrowed ideas (or getting inspiration from) is nothing new anywhere.........Star Wars anyone?

I read Neuromancer last year, and I didn't like it too much either.

ive watched ghost in the shell... the matrix is loosley based on that movie at best... it just seems like they took some ideas from it... like there is a scene in a city fruit market, and a guy shoots a gun and the bullet shoots through a bunch of watermelons, stuff like that.

edit: actually, it was a long time ago when i watched it and my friend was fast forwarding and moving it back really pissing me off (i never watch movies with him anymore) so take my oppinion with a grain of salt, lol

if you want to watch the movie ghost in the shell you have to read the book to fully understand the movie. if not you can get bored real quick. i like movies where they are pretty good about devoluping the story as you go along like akira, ninja scroll, vampire hunter d (bloodlust not the first one)

you can go back even farther if you want. the idea of humans being enslaved by machines is by no means new. wut about fritz lang's metropolis produced in 1927??!?!

the novelty in the matrix was how they developed the plot. alot of people regard the matrix soley as an action movie, but a great deal of the movie is used to set up the plot and storyline. i haven't seen the other movies, but from my understanding, the type of "enslaving" being done by the machines is different in purpose and method in the matrix than in the other films you guys are mentioning. also, the extent to which the used special effects only supported and enhanced the main storyline.

it's easy to lose sight of this if you focus on just the action and special effects.

perhaps it was part of the inspiration, but the anime was overrated😛 some nice animation, tad screwed up story.

You might try to get a hold on Cyber City Oedo 808. It's a 3 episodes only anime, but it's very good and also very hard to find.
