ok so , at uni we have to do fortnightly maths tests, we just had a summary test ie all thats been learnt so far and i got a whopping 29% i revise like hell, and get nothing....
however one the other hand, my friends get pissed everynight and sit in a group infront of one of their computers and do the test together. one of them who is known to be totally bone idle and does no work goes last and gets 86% annoying
perception is the program used to test us, it produces random questions (so some people get a harder test than others) but usually they are the same question with differen numbers. the people who put perception on line even admit that it shouldnt be used for testing maths
flaws with perception
>does not reflect a persons ability, rather just reflects their ability to cheat
>doesnt stop people working in groups
>hasnt got a tolerancing system built in....if you are 0.01 off in your answer coz u rounded the wrong way, no marks
>doesnt award method marks, sure you can know the maths but see point above and u get no marks
>awards no marks or full marks only
>i know one guy who is crap at maths, yet knows how to use Mathlib to formulate a program that will give him the correct answer every time
>it actually has incorrect answers in its databse
>the code for this program is so horrid the programmers in maths refuse to start trying to improve it
these tests are worth 40% all together, with a 60% written test
i have always made a point about revising an then doing the test on my own, with things that ill have in a proper test. ie no text books, no programmable calcs or graphical calcs. just a pencil, paper and a scientific calc thats it
i cant wait to do the written test, coz these guys wont have google, wont have a graphical calc that can differentiate and intergrate for them, wont have mathlib to formulate the questions with, and wont be able to confer with each other.
it just sucks that theyre gonna have enough marks to pass any way because they cheated

*doesnt require that u need to be able to do maths...just know how to use MathLib
*i revise and do an honest test and get a 29% (fail by the way)
*friends dont revise, work in groups, use google and fancy calculators to get high marks

*cant wait to do a proper exam hall maths test at the end of the year, where the people who actually do the work will pwn the people who relied on computers and other people to do their tests
(side note one of my firends in question actually did so little work last year he spent all of the last day frantically rushing to do it all, he got some one else (who studies maths) to do his test for him to help hime out, he subsequently got the highest mark)
