Actually, math is really easy. It's just hard to find a reason to apply yourself to it. You like computers, don't you? I mean, I'm assuming so since you post on this board. Math is WAY more simple than most things about a computer if you really understand what's going on.
 
First, substitute:

5x + 6 = 2x - x + 3x - 9

Combine like terms on each side:

5x + 6 = 4x - 9

Subtract 4x from both sides:

5x + 6 - 4x = 4x - 9 - 4x
x + 6 = -9

Subtract 6 from both sides:

x + 6 - 6 = -9 - 6
x = -15

Check your answer:

p(x) = 5(-15) + 6 = -69
p(x) = 2(-15) - (-15) + 3(-15) - 9 = -69

BAH. You can't just TELL him the answer. 😛 That's why I didn't in the first place, I just pointed him in the right direction. 😉

I understand you. I used to hate math, then I started to do some programming...then I took algebra and trig...I really started to think math was awesome because it was so useful for solving problems. I'd always liked geometry because I have a very good visual understanding of things, but hated algebra...when I started to see algebra connect with geometry I started to like it.

The last math test I did, I recall handing in with a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment. And I also realized how huge of a fvcking dork I really was.

Where there's one math problem there's usually another. I figured that if I showed him step by step how to do this one, he could do the others himself.

If you think math sucks, wait until you get into Physics where your teacher blows up CO2 bombs IN CLASS, breaking ceiling tiles, blows them up outside sending a 2-liter bottle through the lid of a 55-gallon rubbermaid trash can, and takes the physics and chemistry classes together out to a friend's tree nursery where you blow up various mixtures of black powder, shoot off bottle rockets, and inconspicuously mix the two projects together, sending a rocket up 100 feet and watching it explode violently 😀 😀 😀
 
isn't there a minimum age limt for AT? ...here i am mad atmyself that i finally understood line integration and green's theorm only like 2 hours b4 the test, and someone is having trouble solving for X when there is just ONE variable?

Uh................................................

Oh and if you think math sucks, go live in a cave. Because without math nothing is possible
 
This math is algebra and i needed help and thank you to all who actually helped me the rest of you are great people just you need to stop inturupting my math.
