I do not recall any of those weird math symbols in any class I took in college (Cal I, II, III, DE and LA). I am going off simplicity here. No matter what positive number of a slope you would choose the largest integer k could not be would be 1000.

Then again, it is worded weird to me.

What on earth college did you go to where you didn't see those symbols through that many mathematics courses?! Hell, I've seen them in pre-calculus courses.

This notation is basic logic used in discrete math.

Graduated with an engineering degree and I've never seen those symbols before either.

I've forgotten most of my math now but those are basic logic symbols. Guess you never took a discrete math course. Would probably have seen them if you had a Comp Sci deg.
