thanks guys....heres one that wont work....ive got no idea

Let f(x) = 2x2 + 4.

Find the average rate of change of f(x) between x=-1 and x=3.

wouldnt it be 8? wtf?

y=mx+b
y=-7/3x+2.667
0=-7/3x+2.667
-2.667=-7/3x
-2.667 divded by -7/3= x

Your welcome.

average rate of change with respect to x would be (change in f(x))/(change in X)

The object is to bring the value of y to zero, because it is at that point we find the x-intercept.

The formula we use is y = mx + b (slope-intercept) where m equals slope and b equals the y-intercept

y = mx + b

y = -7/3x + 2.667

0 = -7/3x + 2.667

-7/3x = -2.667

x = 1.143
