I'm building a crate 34 inches square and 4 ft high to pack a crystal chandelier. The packing peanuts i need come in bagsize of 5 cubic ft. How many bags will i need?
Approximate.

Your crate volume is about 32 cubic feet - so you'll need about 4-5 bags - depending on what the volume of the crystal chandelier is...

i say 0. Newspaper would probably make better packaging than peanuts for your chandelier.

If it is a really small chandelier than you may make it with 6.

Thats how I interpreted it. If he's already done the "area" calculation and its actually 5.8" x 5.8" x 4 feet :D thats one skinny chandelier - in which case he'll have lots of peanuts to return.
