I don't think that the boy is all that unusual. My son could read books at 2, started understanding math at 3 and can also read music. He's almost 5 and can read really long childrens books by himself. The amazing thing is, we never taught him how to read. He learned it all on his own from remembering what we read.

I would walk by his room at 6AM and I could hear him reading books to himself. It is very cute. He also has taken a liking to my wife's organic chemistry book.

The thing is, we don't force him to do anything. We don't want to be one of those pushy parents that want their kids to graduate college at 12. We just want him to enjoy himself and have a normal life. It just happened that he has an affinity towards learning. His younger sister on the other hand, doesn't care at all for books. She just wants to play.

I wish other kids would like school, math, and chemistry like him.... :Q although I like the listed areas of science.

lol, there are lotsa diff types of pre-school. montessori is just one type.

I don't know if mine was a Montessori type or not really. The numbers and tiles were just laying there for kids to mess around with, not really used for one thing in particular. I'm not sure if that goes with or against the teaching style of a Montessori place of learning.

I sent my son, the one that can read, to Montessori and he absolutely hated it.

They, or at least the one I sent him to, were so rigid, elitist and demanding I pulled him out after a year even though I had to eat a $2K deposit.

They told us to stop reading to him and basically stifle his learning. He got to a point where he hated going so we put him in a more normal pre-school. Now he loves going again. Some of his former classmates have actually left too complaining about the same things. The thing I hated the most about that Montessori was the principal/owner. She was so condescending and elitist it was disgusting.

Im sure just like any place it depends on the faculty. The school my g/f teaches at doesnt sound anything like the one your child went to. Sorry to hear about your bad experience. Overall I think its a great way for kids to learn.

PS: i'm pretty sure it was montessori, w/ the mats on the ground below the work and that bar counting is almost identical to the one at her school.

Red corduroy pants with pastel striped shirts... hell yes that's what we wore in the 80s!

I don't think anyone really cared what pre-schoolers were wearing. Look at the kid behind me

So wait, you uploaded a picture of yourself as a child doing something pretty simple, and proceeded to call yourself a genius... this thread sucks.

It's not exactly simple and if somehow you're too dense to notice, I didn't actually think I was a genius

No I wasn't "too dense to notice" but you did all of the above in the first post... thus this thread is garbage.

I believe those were shrinky-dinks, as well as "Smith's Theory of Relativity" whilst working at the patent office.
