Going to home depot tomorrow, getting fancy with my glue gun and making some broom ball shoes, which I'll need for on the ice. Although this material cannot scratch the ice, so metal is out of the question. Any ideas?

is aluminum oxide a metal? at any rate, its as hard as metal and will scratch the surface of the ice just as well.

Aluminum oxide AKA alumina (Al2O3) is a ceramic, not an oxide. It is significantly harder than all bulk metals.
The problem with sandpaper is that the abrasive grains may not dig deep enough to provide traction.
Aluminum oxide sandpaper is extremely common.Originally posted by: Fayd
