Matching Maxtor or IBM Deskstar for RAID?

Hey. I have a 40GB Maxtor 7200 RPM drive. I have a KT7A-RAID motherboard, so I would like to take advantage of such a setup.

I heard that it is best if the drives match exactly, but I have also heard that IBM Deskstars (not sure what model) are the best, most reliable overall drives.

Which would you suggest? The "better" drive (if they still are better) or the matching one? They're about the same in price.

Or should I screw it and just get a new IBM and add it in? Thanks for the suggestions.

Man you heard wrong...

While not all IBM hard drives go bad, and I'm sure most are isolated incidents being whined about more often than others, it seems as if IBM + reliability /= the truth...

The 75GXP model was the worst, some problems are showing up with the 60GXP, but I haven't really heard anyone saying anything wrong with the 120GXP models.

Maxtor makes damn nice drives, and w/raid you're supposed to have the exact same drive. I don't know, I don't want to sound like a zealot here, but I would suggest you get another maxtor.

I'd suggest a Western Digital, second Maxtor. You'd better do a bit of reading if you are thinking about IBM.

Yeah. Guess I was fooled by their mass inclusion in prime gaming machines (Falcon, Alienware) a few months ago.
