OK how's this:

They reckon in 2 years your mobile will be connecting to the net at MBps speeds. If your mobile, why not your MP3 "jukebox" to your home PC . . .

Result: A mega mini sized lightweight MP3 player with ALL your MP3's "on" it . . .

It contains a list of all the MP3s on your PC at home and downloads them when you pick what you want to listen to. Might take a few seconds for a 5MB file, but if you use a playlist it could download the next song or two in advance.

Such a device would need no more than 32MB memory at the most, even 8MB would probably be enough.

And since mobiles are two way devices it shows that surely you don't need a mega powerful transmitter on your desk at home, just another similarly sized device. . .

That would require some pretty major wireless bandwidth. You'd need a throughput of at least 256 kbps. I somewhat doubt that they will have mobile access at mbps speeds in two years, considering I still can't even get broadband via landlines where I live, let alone wireless. And I don't actually live that far out.

Wow, that would be pretty sweet. If the bandwith was good enough, you wouldn't need much space on the device at all. You could basically just stream it in all the time.. Nothing like that would probably happen here in the states though...at least not for a while.. It doesn't look like we'll have anything near a 3G standard for a while. The US has different standards and such, and just getting everything set up for 3G is taking it's time.

Great idea though, once we get off these silly 56k modem standard, we might be able to make somethign like this...also, in 2 years "mp3's" or whatever form of compression is used will be much smaller in size, which will speed up the download also.

I heard that the latest 3G prototypes can only use their 8Mbps for 1 second on a normal phone battery !!

8Mbps for only one second??? That is pretty bad....I guess we need some new form of power supply too...
