Why not? Some women do not like bars and clubs, and some women don't have time to go on the manhunt. Granted that young people don't use them as much as the middle-aged type, but placing a personal ad does not mean that one is a freak.

That seems to be pretty much the typical life cycle for most sites nowadays... start off free to build traffic (and while banner ads and such still make enough to cover your costs or make a profit), then switch to a fee-based model once your user base hits a certain critical mass and the site is no longer self-supporting without user fees. It happened here on these forums too.

Who cares what method you use to meet someone? Would you rather place or respond to a personal ad and find someone, or be be alone and looking but able to say with a certain air of superiority to someone else, "well, i may be single but at least i didn't have to find someone through a personals ad!"

As far as i'm concerned, more power to the person who does meet someone that way. Takes a lot of guts to do that.
