Sperm die and regenerate constantly whether they are used or not. But eggs are limited. Women dont make any more. And theres far less of them to start with also. So every time a women has her "Aunt Flo" she murdered what could have been a child.
Humans have many eggs because its assumed nature will kill off so many of our offspring, (we werent always on the top of the food chain). Whether you believe in god or darwin, this concept holds true. So what the heck is the reason for having always these babies when the mother didnt want it anyway?

On a similar note, I think concerned couples should consider adoption before making a new baby.
There are plenty of nice kids (already born) waiting to be picked up and we can slow down this whole population pressure thing too.
