Master IDE cdrom drives not detected

kb2114

For some reason, my new system will not detect either of my dvd drives when I plug them in as a master drive. The only way I've been able to use both is to plug in each as a slave, and when I do this they both seem to act sluggish and won't always read discs correctly. The mobo is an A8N SLI. Can anyone help me out with this?

Your post is a little confusing.
A normal configuration would be hda [master] hdb [slave] on primary channel
dvd-rw[master] dvdrom [slave] on secondary ide.

How is yours set up and are you using sata at all?

Sorry if I was confusing. My HD is set up on SATA leaving both IDE slots open. I originally connected the cdrom ide cable to the secondary ide slot, but for some reason only the slave drive is detected when I do this. I tried using the primary ide slot and had the same problem. I've tried 4 different IDE cables and all have the same problem.

My guess is your config with the sata is the problem as I suspect if you had a normal pata hd it would work fine.

I don't use sata so am not sure really what advice to give you, but I know many people heredo and will have some suggestions....

free bump🙂

I hate to point out the obvious - but have you checked your drive jumpers? 😛

Match the cables up with the drives with the proper jumper settings.
[mobo]----------------[slave]-----[master]

I suggest you put both DVD drives on CS (Cable Select) and plug them into the "Master" port of the IDE.
