This movie rocks. I've watched it like 8 or 9 times and each time this movie has me enthralled.

Even if this movie has like absolutely no females in it except for like 10 seconds.

**Warning**
This movie requires an attention span greater than 50 seconds.

This one just didn't do it for me. I don't know why. In my opinion, it was just OK.

And it's not for lack of an attention span, because I enjoyed Lost in Translation. No one with ADD can watch that movie. :p

I'm still amazed at boats (ships?) from those days. I mean, before nylon rope and plastics used in sails. The whole thing is just nutty.

You might want to try the books the movie was based on by Patrick O'Brian. There's 20 books in the Aubrey/Maturin series.

i saw it and liked it, but it seemed like a movie that would've looked/sounded even better if i had a kickass plasma tv and surround sound....

I don't know man... I read a few of those books and they are pretty weak. They just don't go anywhere. Something happens, then something else happens, then some more things happen then it's over but nothing has really changed.

I'm on the 19th of the 20 book series (I started after watching the film) - they are, of course, nothing like the film (which is a bastardization of like 3 of the books) but both are great in their own respect. The first book in the series starts a little slow, and since a lot of the language is period it takes some getting used to. About 200 pages into it once you've gotten the hang of all the strange euphemisms you can really rip through it. Very entertaining series for many reasons which have all been hashed out in reviews, so I won't go over them. :)

As for the film, it's much more enjoyable on the big screen or if you have a good HT setup, definitely adds to the ambience of being on a 19th century frigate.

Just picked it up for $10 today at CC, I've always liked Russell Crowe movies.
