Massive problems on this one

It all started no more than 2 weeks ago, i had a random crash playing wow. this proceeded to happen a few more times during the rest of the week. Now this week it has crashed to the point of no return apparently.

Everytime I tried to turn it on it would either load into windows then freeze up or not even make it into windows. Alot of times it would just constantly reset itself before it would get to the windows loadup screen. I would shut it off the comp but it seems to need a break because if i try to turn it back on right away it would reciece no power. If i wait 5-10 mins it would turn on and do the same thing.

Now a couple days I was searching the forums here and seen recomendations to reseting video/ram and removing everything from PCI slots. I first removed my tv tuner and sound card, turned it and what do you kow it works. Got my torrents downloading again, playing some wow and listening to music with no problems....till i come home from work the next day and find everything as started all over again.

This time I tried switching the ram around, tried a different power supply, checked for bad caps (found none) reseated the video card and still the same problems. If I try to reinstall windows it will load the files then reset when it starts to load windows.

AND to top if all off now after putting everything back together for one last go at it when i click the power supply on it starts making a faint whispery noise of maybe a fan trying to start spinning but having problems (something like crickets but constant and quiet) and it wont boot up or turn on at all.

so how sol am I?

power supply say icute on it and it came with the case

My first guess would be a bad PSU. But, you said you tried a different PSU? Can you see CPU temps? Is that fan failing? The symptoms to me sound like overheating. Have you tried to open the case and blow a fan in there to see if you still get the failures? Have you tried a different hard drive?

Well I've discovered that the power supply is indeed dead. While using a good psu I ran memtest for over 3 hours last nite and today and no errors. I tried a different working hd through ide cable. Tried mine using different sata ports. I do have the case wide open and room is fairly cool. Bios show cpu at 40 C right after a crash. A new problem has somewhat risen. When attempting to log into windows on my hd i get an error saying "\Windows\System32\Config\System" is missing or corrupt and it tells me to repair using the windows disk which is all fine except the same problem of screen going black (monitor says no signal and system hangs) when setup has loaded all the files and starts windows.

was the HD formated with that motherboard, because if you used a different chipset that would cause you to get that error

the ide was not formated with my mobo but the sata was, which is giving me the error when i try to boot into windows. but both hd's give me the same no signal on monitor and system hang when windows setup is loading windows

i would take it into a computer shop but im afraid it will cost gobs of money and beside with the wealth of knowledge that visits these forums i'm hoping to learn more than item x needs to be replaced or we cant find the problem you owe us xxx.

When you say it works, are you saying that you no longer have any issue with your computer after you put your gf's 3200 venice core CPU in your computer?
