MASSCOOL VF1-PLUS vs. ZALMAN VF900

I currently own the Sytran Masscool VF1-Plus VGA cooler. The thing keeps my card at temps of 50 at idle and 60-65 at load (Sapphire X1800XT). My gripe is that the VF1 is enourmous and prevents me from adding an extra exhaust fan to my case (as well as blocking 2 PCI slots). I was thinking of moving to the Zalman VF900 to make use of my PCI slots and add the extra blower fan that is available for my Lian-Li case. I've read the reviews of both coolers and they both look good.

Would moving to the Zalman help my case's airflow? Do you think it is worth it to change coolers?

yea it'll prob help your case flow, especially if you MB is mounted upside down like in some LL case's my vf900 cooled x1900xt idles @ 39C and loads at 55C. in Lian Li v1000b plus

I have a PC-7B Plus II, so it's rightside up. The only thing the card/cooler is blocking is air getting to my video card; but it feels like having a non monsterous cooler on my VGA could improve airflow - especially because the PC-7B is smaller than other Lian-Li's

Anyone have experiences with the Masscool? or have moved away from it because of its massive size?

I run a VF1 Plus and love it!

The size doesn't bother me a bit! Then, again, I also run a Tuniq Tower 120, sooooo... 😀

If the size of the blower bothers you, the frame will also accomodate axial fans, but axial fans don't work nearly as good.

Normally, I wouldn't recommend getting a Zalman, but you already own a Lian Li case, so what difference does it make, you know? Get yourself a Zalman and live happily ever after! 😉

I'd stay away from the Zalman VF900 with an X1900XT ... I tried it on my XTX & it wasn't up to the job. Idle temps were about the same & it was quite a bit quieter the the stock cooler, but under load temps went up to over 90c, even with the fan locked at 100%.

Its a very good cooling solution for a 7900GT/GS level card, but the X1900XT just puts out too much heat for it. (note that this was running in a very well ventilated Lian Li full tower case)

I have an 1800xt, but I'd assume they produce similar amounts of heat. Is idling at 50-55 and load at 65-70 bad? I've seen people get temps around 39-45 at idle. But then again I use the driver's built in Overdrive to overclock slightly. Are the temps I am getting bad?
