I have no idea how you guys went through the game so fast.. Between the lengthy dialog and driving the Mako I think I spent 10 hours alone. 😛

I finished it last night, pretty amazing game and story. It had some rough parts, with the similar building structures and the Mako stuff, but for the most part was a solid experience.

Heh, I've owned the game for less than 2 weeks and I've already beaten it twice. Its way too short and way too lite on the character interaction. There are a few cool moments, but not like the constant interaction you used to get in the classics, or even in the KOTOR games.

Oh, this is the 200th post in this thread. 😛

Anyone who has played both the PC and 360 version, which one to get?

I had a chance to see the first 20 minute on the PC and it looked great. I love the film grain and 70's sci-fi look of the characters. Is the 360 version much worse than the PC, because the PC looked great to me.

If you can crank up the detail and run a higher resolution than 720p or whatever was max on the 360 version I'd say the PC version is better for sure. On a 7950 at say, 1680x1050 LCD you would probably get a similar visual experience. Beyond that, the mouse/kb is far superior if you prefer FPS on the PC and they also cleaned up a lot of the menus. The squad combat interaction is also completely new and revamped as well.

There are some problems though with the PC version, so if you want to play a more problem-free game, you may want to wait for the first patch which the Devs have confirmed they are working on. There's some crashing problems with both vendors along with some Vista work-arounds (UAC). There's also some SLI/CF scaling issues although those can probably be fixed with driver profiles. The big one for me was hardware sound with the X-Fi. I eventually fixed it by modifying the Bioengine.ini that I found on the Mass Effect forums. Apparently the ME config launcher does *not* save hardware sound and actually overwrites the setting in the .ini to force software mode.

Anyways, I just finished the game again on Veteran as a Vanguard with Sniper Rifle. I'll probably play through Insanity or whatever the last mode is in a month or two. Unlocking Spectre weapons and Weapon/Ability specialties on the first playthrough makes the 2nd and subsequent playthroughs really, really easy. I went and did everything but didn't go system to system and barely made Level 50. Level 60 is probably a sick grind so I doubt I'll try for it.

I see a lot of people are shying away from the Sniper Rifle, but I've found it to be incredibly fun. It really requires you to use the Squad movement commands though. Basically you find a spot with good LoS or a choke point and then move your squaddies around cover to flush out the bad guys or draw/cover fire. Its immensely fun and gratifying playing through like this, I highly recommend it. Once you get some of the better inserts, you'll be able to get off 3 rapid shots before overheat and a 4th after only a slight delay.

Took me 40 hours. Great game.

Going to play it again, but not yet.

Any idea why my FX-60 and Radeon X1950pro give me 20fps?

I'm running it at 1280x1024 and most graphics options make about zero difference in FPS... OK if I set everything to minimum I get like 5fps more than everything maxed out... 🙁

Maybe you are limited by your CPU (it seems very unlikely with a FX-60 though) but it's more likely you have a driver issue.

Quick question, I'm getting this game for PC but is it better to play it with a KB/Mouse or a 360 Controller?

They did an great job at integrating mouse/keyboard - sort of an over the shoulder shooter.

<--- Not surprised.

<---- Very surprised, considering they essentially said "no plans now, and if ever, not for years" whenever asked.

The official faq:

6. Will Mass Effect be coming to the PC?

Chris Priestly: Mass Effect is planned as an Xbox 360 exclusive title. This means we are not working on a PC version and have no plans to start making one.

It is possible that one could be made in the future, but it would certainly be a wait of a number of years before we even start to make one, let alone actually release such a thing.

But awesome, this gives the media another shot to completely misconstrue the sex scene as pornography

If I've learned anything about the gaming industry, it's to never ever trust any bit of information or opinion about a title unless it comes from the title's consumers themselves.

Just a heads up, there's a 1.01 patch up for the PC version as well as the PC version of Bringing Down The Sky. I haven't installed or played either at the moment though.

I believe the patch is included in Bringing Down the Sky,I have just installed it so I'm off to play.

Yeah, dynamic shadows are 'teh suck' in this game. Everything else is wicked! 😀 Well, maybe the boring side quests too. But the story and gameplay are really enjoyable 🙂 Ohh and Ashley > Liara 😛
