I am really bored lately and I need something to play. I heard that mass effect has very good absorbing storyline right? Is it worth the money?

I played it non stop for five days before finishing it. It's very absorbing and you don't feel like putting down the controller once you start playing. It's good for at least 2 playthroughs. I would say it's worth it

I have a hard time picking out my #1 favorite game from 2007, but it's definitely between Mass Effect, BioShock, and Rock Band. I've played ME through two and a half times and I can't recommend it enough.

Out of curiosity, have any of the alleged issues (technical) that Mass Effect had at launch been fixed?

I just started playing Mass Effect last week and it is a VERY good game. Might be the first single player-only game I've bought since oblivion.

I'm not sure which specific issues you're talking about, so it's impossible to say.

The main problem that seems to bother people are the long load times (20 seconds) between some areas. In my opinion, at first the loadtimes were irksome. But then I get so engrossed in the story that the short breaks actually gave me a few seconds to stop and digest the plot. Maybe I'm being too forgiving, but I mind loadtimes in an RPG much less than I would a mindless shooter/racing game.

Oh, and the optional sidequests with the Mako could be more interesting. But I would recommend doing them on at least one of your playthroughs.

Mass Effect rules

The engrossing dialog system and intriguing plot will allow you to forgive the repetitive side missions and mediocre combat system (although I still thought the combat system was fun, but definitely broken and in need of some polish). You can easily spend 30-40 hours on one playthrough. That reminds me, I need to go back and finish my second...

I played it. It was okay.

I love the dialog system, but the plot was pretty stereotypical. I guessed what was going to happen in about an hour or so into the game. Also, the Mako missions and elevator scenes were pretty boring. Not to mention money is pretty useless. I ended the game rich with nothing to buy.

Despite this, you should probably still play Mass Effect is you are into RPGs at all. It just isn't as amazing as I had hoped.

I mean they could raise their profits by making it multi-platform right?

Same here, either that or for the PS3.

At least we (PC gamers) will have Dragon Age as a PC exclusive (at least initially)

EA bought Bioware after Bioware & Microsoft had their exclusivity deal in place for Mass Effect 1 (it's a planned trilogy). There has been plenty of rumor and speculation about the terms of ME1's exclusivity or whether or not MS will pony up the cash to keep even 2 & 3 exclusive or not.

I think the most likely prediction is that ME1 will be out on the PC in a year or two but I'd be very surprised to see it hit the PS3. The second and third games are anyone's guess.

Very bad idea to quote Fox news.

On another note, Mass Effect = RPG with assault rifles $$$

I am just getting sick of all the RPGs where you run around with swords, the entire time i'm thinking "If only i had a gun, i'd own all these n00bs"

I've put about 7 hours into this and really dig it. The voice acting is amazing and the story is interesting enough that I'll go through all the conversations possible with most characters I run into. If I play it through again it'll probably be with a fully bionic character. I'm the soldier/bionic mix right now (whatever it is).
