Mass Effect Special Edition coming out for $19.99?

Queasy

Moderator<br>Console Gaming
Gamestop has a 2-disc special edition of Mass Effect listed for $19.99. The second disk has a documentary, game trailers, music, design galleries and the Bring Down the Sky DLC.

If this is true, I'll have to snag this up immediately when it is released on 2/10.

My GOTY for 2007. $20 is a steal and this is one of the few games where I would actually watch the "making-of" features.

I don't know how. I finished it (and all of the sidequests) in around 30 hours. I don't know what you are doing, perhaps mindlessly wandering around barren planets 😕

EDIT: OH WAIT, I played without any DLC, so if you have DLC maybe that significantly increases the gameplay time?

Nah, the DLC is a somewhat brief portion of the game (I think it's only one mission)

My first run was 22-24 hours, just playing it to play.
At 25 hours on my completionist run, probably another 10-15 on that.

Wasn't there going to be massive (Uh ignore the pun) DLC for this game at one point? We got one super short mission and that's it. What's the deal?

Darn, I bought the standard version for $20 this morning. But, that was the PC version so this rerelease might be a 360 exclusive. Main advantage over the standard for the 360 is the inclusion of Bring Down the Sky, but that is free on the PC version anyways.

The main quest is pretty short. My total run through was about 30-35 hours I think, but I would say at least half of that was side quests.

How is the steam/pc version of this game?

Steam version does not have Sony's dreaded SecuROM DRM

As for a comparison of the 360 versus PC version:
Comparison of the two

Other items of note (beyond what is mentioned in the comparison linked above):
1. DLC on the PC / Steam version is free (Bring Down the Sky)
2. Mod community is tiny
3. Story / gameplay between PC and 360 version should be just about identical

I'm guessing the lack of additional DLC beyond the one extra mission has to do with Bioware going under the EA umbrella and focusing on other projects.

I don't know how people are taking so long to beat this game. Is the 360 controlling slowing people down? I bought the PC version on a friday afternoon and by Sunday afternoon, had beaten it the first time. My total play time was ~20 hours. That with doing every side quest I could find, exploring every nook and cranny on populated planets, etc. The second time I played through it, the time was around 8 hours because I already knew where everything was.

Since I've exhausted my activations on my retail box version, any future attempts to install require me to call EA, so I haven't bothered with Bringing Down the Sky. Likely, I'll buy it again off Steam when it hits the 4.99 price point. The game should have only been 25 to 30 USD at release for the pitiful content and nearly non-existent replay value.

I easily spent around 35 hours on my first playthrough exploring absolutely everything (including the cut-and-pasted barren wasteland planets) and completing every side quest I could get my hands on. I've probably spent around 80-90 hours total on the game, over three or four complete playthroughs and some partials.

But then again, I actually enjoyed the game.

no replay? there so many diff classes to play. that alone is replay.

I got the completionist achievement as well as most of the minerals and ID tag things, and I clocked in at about 33 hours. I don't know what is taking you so long JoPh 😉

i feel the side quests never end. i just keep doing them... is there an end to side quests? or do they just keep generating new ones?

i stopped the main mission to do side quests. maybe i just need to go back to main mission.

There are a finite amount of side quests. As long as you're enjoying the game, is it necessarily a bad thing that it's taking you so long to finish? Half the fun of the game is exploration (even though the side quest planets and environments are repetitive). Nothing wrong with taking your time.

True dat. More for your money.

I wasn't trying to hassle you for taking long. I was just surprised, as I'm one who usually crawls through games (I'm so slow that my friends make fun of me) due to my habit of complete exploration (i.e. it took me like 20 hours to beat Bioshock). Still, you managed to make ME last significantly longer than I did.

This is likely. EA probably wants Bioware to focus on the new KotOR MMORPG in hopes that it will turn into a cash printing machine like WoW, since their Warhammer MMO failed to be a massive success.

It could also be that EA fears any distribution method that does not involve a disc.

I just hope that the follow ups are legitmate successors to the original and not half ass knock offs like KOTOR-II was.

Might have to pick it up for $20. I'm more of an action/shooter type of person, so I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy this.
