OK, I constantly see debate about whether Mass Effect 1 or Mass Effect 2 was the better game in various threads. Let's settle this once and for all!

I'm firmly in the ME1 camp - the story was better and the RPG elements were all intact. Sure, there were inventory management problems, but that wasn't a big deal compared to the sheer greatness of the game. Also, some people complained about Mako missions - I rather liked them, but regardless I can say that they were 1000x better than those stupid mining scans in ME2. I don't like how ME2 gutted the skill system and the item customizations.

Don't get me wrong, I still liked ME2, but ME1 is the clear winner in my mind.

Ditto. ME1 was way better overall to me. Both are amazing games, though, and I can't wait for 3.

ME 1 for being fresh and original, and on PC the driving and elevators weren't as bad as on consoles. ME 2 suffers a little from being the middle part of a trilogy but was still a great game.

ME2 made some improvements over some things in ME1 but ME1 is the better game. When I finished it, I knew it was one of the best games I'd ever played. top 3 for sure.

I found the second one to be horrible, story felt completely non-existent and only really kicked off in like the last 30 minutes of the game itself.

Pretty much I felt ripped off to have paid $60 for a scavenger hunt video game.

I didn't like the first that much. I felt that the RPG parts were cumbersome and that the graphics were too sharp, so that you could see imperfections on their faces.

I enjoyed both. There are differences alright but I'm happy to live with their shortcomings. They are nothing compared to the pain of firing up DA2 and discovering how dumbed-down it was.

I just finished ME2, it was pretty boring. The story was also mostly filler. ME1 was better, but neither game was great.

I must agree with him.

Gameplay was pretty decent, but story is really boring and the universe is so dull. It's a copy and paste of every single sci fi trope ever, and its ridiculously boring.

If I didn't spend countless hours of time in the elevators in the Citadel in ME1, then it would be my favorite 🙂 Personally, I thought ME2 did a better job all around of presenting the game and making it enjoyable. I wish that it had a little more of the RPG element of 1, but it wasn't a huge departure like Fable 3 was.

After playing for 45 minutes, I can say I like ME2 a hell of a lot more than ME1. Action is far better, and the opening sequence was very cool.

I liked Mass Effect 2 a little more then the first. The art design seemed significantly superior in 2 then in 1, as though bioware had snatched the artists from Bioshock and asked them to give the Mass Effect universe more of a styled, unique identity. I hated scanning planets, but I also hated driving that car thing in the first game, so my dislikes about break even in that regard. 2 may perhaps come out slightly ahead, if only because the patch I got on xbox live made scanning planets many times faster.

One thing I really have to give the first game though is that it did not have the EA taint. None of that "Preorder now and get already finished content that WOULD have shipped with the disc itself in previous console generations! Suck it, consumer scum!" bullshit
