Mass Effect possible bug, need help

I'm on the mission at Virmire, I made the choice to return to save Ashley after she planted the nuke, I am supposed to go through the door on my right, as indicated on the map, however the door light never turns green and I cant open it.

Reloaded from an earlier save, got to the same point and same thing. Door to the AA tower won't activate for me to open it.

Did I seriously play through the majority of Mass Effect over the last month only to encounter a game breaking bug at the end, and now I won't be able to finish the game OR continue my character into parts 2 and 3?

If you're going back to save Ashley after she planted the nuke, you don't go to the AA tower, you go back to the bomb site. Try going the other way.

How did you get it to work? I can't get the game to launch on Windows 8.1.

I just ran the game on Windows 8.1 to check the scene in question, and I didn't have a problem. No compatibility fixes or anything. Some people have had problems with "General Protection Fault" errors when trying to run the game in Vista, 7, or 8/8.1, but I've never run into that on 8/8.1 or back when I was running 7. I'm using the Steam version, so that might be making a difference.

I'm using the origin version. That is probably it.

Skurge, try disabling the Origin overlay if you havent done that (in Origin, click on the game, go to properties, and check the 'disable Origina overlay"
