Mass Effect freezing

Hi all,

There was an old post on this game waaaaaaay back and instead of resurrecting it, I'll try a new one. I recently purchased this when steam had it for $5 and decided to give it a whirl but the game would freeze at the most inopportune moments.

The screen sometimes would turn blank with music still going for no apparent reason and the save icon would just constantly stay on screen when I hit a save point.

Since this is an old game, probably all the bugs were fixed, correct? Anyone recall if there was a fix for this. It seems like a fun game like "Knights of the Old Republic"

Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated.

What settings are you using for video/audio?

I had a ton of sound problems, but only 2 or 3 lockups so far.
 
I manually adjusted video to 1680x1050 in the game config.ini but should have used 1920x1080 which is the native resolution for my monitor. I also currently have an creative x-fi for audio.

If you are OCing (which I think you are according to your sig), you might want to try to lower it or just run it at stock speed.

I know that even though you might be running stable for most things, the OC could be causing your game to crash/freeze. It's worth a shot is all I'm saying.
