Mass Effect for $20 on D2D

The price dropped from $30 to $20 now. On steam it is still $30. Would steam drop the price for competitive reasons? I know they just added the game to steam but I would see D2D as their main competitor. Also Amazon, J&R, etc. have it listed for $20.

Steam doesn't seem to try and compete with other prices (in the UK at least). It's almost always more expensive, unless they have a sale on.
Maybe in the US it would be different, but most Steam games in the US also seem more expensive than Amazon etc.

Steam really does need to lower prices considering they don't need to print manual/boxes or DVDs.

Its also been $20 at Circuit City for a few weeks, and $20 at Best Buy this week only. I'm guessing the dreaded activation limit DRM is about to de-activate itself on its 1 year birthday similar to Bioshock.

So many people are buying games on Steam because of convenience that they're making money hand over fist. They won't lower prices. On the business end of things, they shouldn't. On the consumer end, everything should be free!! :D :p

As long as Steam is cheaper than driving to the store and buying the game (or pack of games, which is where Steam really seems to save people money), then that's cool. If it's the same price as the box on the shelf, I won't buy either one.

People are just used to paying $50 for a new game. The people that want the game are going to buy it regardless. Lowering the price won't increase sales much so they won't.

Direct2Drive isn't so well known so they're selling cheaper to try to attract people away from Steam.

I think that was true in the past, but economy problems has people waiting longer or buying used games. I used to buy mostly new games quickly

the past year and half the only new games I have bought are witcher, fallout 3 and prince of persia. I have gotten about 10 other games used/off amazon for much cheaper

I think your buying pattern is similar to most's, and definitely mine. It's been at least six months since I've paid full price for a game. Most people are much more reluctant to spend $50 now for non-essential things.

That said, if you haven't bought Mass Effect by now, you're really missing out. $20 is a great price for this.

i don't know about steam, but D2D will. When stalker came out they had it listed for $50 when places like amazon had it for $40. I emailed them and told them about it. Next day it was $40 on D2D.

Steam had a sale on it recently. Great game, but the Nvidia card issues are sort of ridiculous... If you have a modern (2600XT and up) ATI card, buy it ASAP.

The ME DLC on Steam isn't working. BW is working on it, but I can't recommend anyone buy it on Steam till they get it fixed.
