Steam really does need to lower prices considering they don't need to print manual/boxes or DVDs.

People are just used to paying $50 for a new game. The people that want the game are going to buy it regardless. Lowering the price won't increase sales much so they won't.
Direct2Drive isn't so well known so they're selling cheaper to try to attract people away from Steam.

I think that was true in the past, but economy problems has people waiting longer or buying used games. I used to buy mostly new games quickly
the past year and half the only new games I have bought are witcher, fallout 3 and prince of persia. I have gotten about 10 other games used/off amazon for much cheaper

The price dropped from $30 to $20 now. On steam it is still $30. Would steam drop the price for competitive reasons? I know they just added the game to steam but I would see D2D as their main competitor. Also Amazon, J&R, etc. have it listed for $20.

i don't know about steam, but D2D will. When stalker came out they had it listed for $50 when places like amazon had it for $40. I emailed them and told them about it. Next day it was $40 on D2D.
