To date, over 1.6 million gamers have explored the engaging sci-fi universe of Mass Effect. Beginning on March 10, fans everywhere will be able to expand the ?Mass Effect? experience with the release of the first ever downloadable content for the award-winning saga.

The Bring Down the Sky downloadable content pack will be released to Xbox LIVE Marketplace on Monday, March 10 at 2 a.m. PST, and will be available for 400 MS points. This is the first in a series of planned downloadable content that further expands the Mass Effect universe and continues the adventures of Commander Shepard and the Normandy crew.

Bring Down the Sky includes a new uncharted world that introduces the notorious and feared alien race of the Batarians. A Batarian extremist group has hijacked a mobile asteroid station in the Asgard system, setting it on a collision course with the nearby colony world of Terra Nova. Only Commander Shepard can save the millions of innocent civilians before the asteroid completes its deadly descent.

Bring Down the Sky contains approximately 90 minutes of heart-pounding action and a new Achievement worth 50 Gamerscore points.

Mass Effect is exclusively available on Xbox 360 and is rated M for Mature by the ESRB.

wow that will be awesome if it is the length of one of the primary missions. If it is just like the other sidequests then...not so much.

Allegedly its about 90 minutes long... for 400 points? I'm not sure if thats good or not. Although, my copy of ME will be at the house today when I get home from work... so we'll see.

$5 isn't too bad, but I have a feeling it's just going to be like every other side-quest in the game. That, and I can't help but think that this stuff would have been in the game if DLC didn't exist.

Also the fact that it's only $5 leaves me to believe that they're planning a handful of these instead of one big expansion.

I may download it once people give impressions. I have a level 58 character on the "insane" difficulty that I need to finish the game with - this would be a good reason to jump back in.

They say as much in the annoncement:

Do you get "insane" by default, or do you have to beat the game like 3 times to unlock it?

Awesome, I will definitely purchase it. If it turns out to be just like the side quests, then I probably won't continue to purchase these because they are basically all the same. I still need to go back and finish my second playthrough and start a third.

Yea, thats my view. If its one of those terrible empty planet missions with those cookie cutter labs then they are not getting my money. Make it like one of the main missions with a story, have the race a new playable character ..etc..then we'll have something.

I plan on giving the game a second playthrough during the summer as a full on renegade so hopefully by then there will be a few DLC to make it feel like a full expansion (at a good price of course!).

If I recall, you get "hardcore" or something similar by beating it on hard, and then "insane" by beating it on "hardcore".

So, yea, you need to beat it 3 times. But in my experience, once you hit like level 45+, the game is easy regardless of the difficulty level. You get all of the level X Spectre gear and you become a monster.

I'm just about through my 3rd playthrough of Mass Effect (now on insane). This includes an entirely new race... there's no doubt I'll be getting it.

hmmm... if this is $5 to play another copy and pasted planet, where you infilitrate the same copy and pasted box storage facility and/or copy and pasted box storing spaceship, I'll pass.

There is on the side quests but I still enjoyed them for the most part.

If you're a completionist, there definitely is. All of the quests on planets not in the main storyline are almost exactly like Kev described.

Land on planet - drive to each of the 3 points of interest - kill some people - leave.

The main story/planets, however, all feel very fresh and merit multiple visits. Unfortunately if you do just those you only have about 8-10 hours of actual gameplay.

To finish in 8-10 hours you have to be flat-out plowing through the game, almost not reading any of the conversations.

My first time through where I explored just about everything took 40 hours. My second time through took 30 and just this week I'm rushing through my third on Insane (thank our AT Gamerscore Challenge) and on pace for about 15-16 hours, but I'd never play this style on my first playthrough.

40 hours your first time around is nuts. I got the completionist achievement and I still finished in half that time. I didn't go to every planet but they're all roughly the same anyway.

My first playthrough took 20 or so hours, my 2nd took 10. I was 1/3 through my 3rd time around on insane and I'm on pace for ~8 hours. Now I don't follow the dialogue except on places where the choices are interesting, and I kept the same character so I am level 58 and basically indestructible. The bulk of time in the game is spent sitting through conversations, replaying parts after you die (which you do a lot early on), and figuring out the levels and general exploration. After 1 time through you know all of the places so it's a breeze.

I have yet to get this game. I absolutely loved both KOTORs and I don't know why I still haven't picked this up yet. I guess it's b/c I'm in college now, so playing games is different than last year in HS when I had like no school work

I believe I posted in the original Mass Effect thread that I didn't even leave the Citadel until hour 11. I certainly wasn't standing around doing nothing, so I guess we just play at vastly different paces.

Yeah, my first time through was 45 hours. Although I did absolutely everything I could.

I got a chance to play for about an hour... unfortunate it was only an hour though. Lately I haven't been a big fan of mostly dialog based games but the voice acting is done well enough that it really is almost like watching a movie and I dont mind at all. I swear I heard Seth Green in there as well as ... uh... that guy. I dont remember his name. Black dude who's in a lot of stuff.

Anyways, I was just got to the 'dig site' and had to shut it down. I want to play more.

Seth Green voices "Joker", the pilot of the Normandy. You should ask him to get up and dance for you. ;)
