I had no idea SecuROM = Sony.

Yet another notch in my "hating Sony" bedpost. It all started for me with VHS v. Beta.

I'm one of the lucky ones and am not experiencing any crashes at all. I disabled SLI for that one part in the citadel which slows everything to a crawl but discovered that game runs perfectly totally maxed out on just one 8800gt.

I probably am loving the game because minus the story and lack of lightsabers, this feels like KoToR3. Hell, biotics are just force powers really. Heard on xbox you had only 2 biotics mapped to buttons and if you wanted to use others you had to do the pause thing. That must have sucked serious dick. But with 8 hotkeys combat is seamless and awesome.

And jesus, how much backstory is there? They wrote a freaking encyclopedia for every race in the game, the amount of dialogue is staggering, and the aliens don't make me chuckle in disbelief the way SW Ep 1 did (remember the horrible asian accents? "it's da jedi, ro no!)

Anyway, since I have zero interest in the real Kotor3mmorpg, ME will have to do, and since it is a planned trilogy, I am one seriously happy camper.

This is crazy, I was looking into the issue where right clicking on dead shortcuts takes a minute to "realize their dead" (a problem that's bugged me for years). I ended up using ShellExView to narrow it down to one extension and apparently the SecuRom context menu is the only thing that causes the problem for me! I've never had Mass Effect on this machine... I wonder who the culprit was.

After all this time I should think somebody has figured out a hack to make the game more stable without the protection.

I dont need to worry about it since I havent played the thing since the first time, almost a year ago. I tried starting a 2nd game and gave up very early. There is absolutely no replay value here at all. The different character classes are really uninspired and you basically have access to all of them anyway with your team mates.

ME 2 will be out eventually. Perhaps they wont have invasive DRM this time. And perhaps bipedal primates will eject from my gluteous maximus.

It's actually not a problem with just Mass Effect, it is a SecuROM issue, which just happens to be included with the version of Mass Effect I was using at the time. Sold off my copy long ago for the PC and bought a used copy for my newish XBox 360. Looking forward to finally playing this game.

I just got the game. Am liking it a little, but the crashing and other issues are pissing me off.

Now I have a new one.
Am walking around Citadel and I cant friggen save!
No quick save.
No hard save.

The game says I cant do it right now, but I AM TIRED AND WANT TO GO TO BED!

WTF?!??!?
Buy the game, jerk.

As for the Securom issue, a fix for it was released ages ago.

It's happened to me too. I had the Direct2Drive version (since the steam version is buggier) and I couldn't save on Noveria once. Wiped out about 2 hour of progress, pretty annoying. If you can't save, you also can't autosave or quicksave so all progression after the bug is worthless.

Hmm, I was going to reinstall the disc version some time soon so I could get a save ready for #2. Does this bug affect everyone? Any way to fix it? I am too tired to read the whole thread right now, so I will have to take a better look tomorrow. Thanks.

It doesn't affect everyone. I've had 1.01 installed before so I can get a save ready for #2 and I never had the problem. You can always just do it and if it happens, use the repair tool.

I had the same issue after installing the expansion. I ended up just formatting the drive and starting fresh. I have avoided reinstalling the game since.

Why did you use a no-cd hack? o_O If you activated the game, you wouldn't need to put in the CD anyway.

Read the dates, read every post, and then you will see why this was pointless.

Well, I also installed a crack, even though I bought the game. It installed and activated just fine, but the DLC refused to activate, said I've used all my activations, not true, I used 3 out of 5 counting this one. I wonder if reinstalling the whole thing would solve it, but I wasn't up to it at the time.

Unfortunately, more and more people will be forced on to consoles as a result of DRM. I think this is exactly what the companies want. Damn pirates? No, it should be apparent to everyone at this stage that DRM was never intended to combat piracy - damn companies.

If the companies insist on using this crap, the very least they could do is ensure that it doesn`t interfere with the game experience or other aspects of our systems.

EA and Sony have become synonymous with fail and there are no signs that this will change in the near future.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Golgatha, I`ll put this on my "games not to buy" list.

So glad that I decided to buy Mass Effect for the 360. About the only selling point of the PC version was that it included Bring Down The Sky for free, but the Platinum Hits version of ME contains a bonus disc with the DLC included. SecuROM DRM + No Controller Support for the PC version = epic fail.
