Theory: This is actually near the ending before ME4. Wouldn't surprise me at all.

Seriously though - the ME universe could be something that keeps going. . . Star wars, LOTR, Warcraft. They've got a solid story basic story and a very interesting group of aliens that could easily get more content.

Couple things I want to point out --

1) The writer for ME3 has not been changed. The writer for the new BOOK has been changed.

2) Bioware has stated before that ME3 is going to finish up Shepard's story arc. However, EA has mentioned that the y may make future games contained within the ME universe.

Don't know if that's a confirmation, but Yvonne Strahovski (the voice and body of Miranda Lawson, for the most part 😛) is currently also "voicing a video game". I hope Miranda gets a lot of use in ME3! I liked her and Tali the most. One of my ME2 careers includes getting together with Miranda (the other with Tali 😛 There's also one with Kelly and one keeping Ashley), I hope ME3 gives an opportunity to continue that (and not give us something similar to Ashley...). Not to mention (spoiler for end fight)

the story in ME2 was good. i didn't like the reduction in the RPG elements though. using the ammo clips in combat was an improvement, i think, although i rarely used my nuke gun because finding ammo was impossible.

For me ME2 was one of the greatest gaming experiences ever. Amazing story (in general), fast paced action, great story dialogues - everything just felt right. And the beginning? The very definition of EPIC. Some things though I would like improved:

- dialogues between missions - those were really short, especially the romance ones. You didn't even have to try... Just talk 3-4 times and that's it. I hope they really expand on this, even regular chats... I wish we could get a depth of characters similar to Baldur's Gate 2 (probably not gonna happen though...). But I hope they add more of regular talking, about different things related to the characters or even the characters asking you questions (so it feels like an actual interaction). In BG2 your answers actually had an impact on the other characters.
- inventory management - well, the lack of it. I don't want ME1-level of trash in your inventory, but different weapon mods you can exchange (that have an influence on gun handling, accuracy, rof, etc), armor mods to armor pieces, more influence of your armor on your actual survival (you could finish the game in your first suit without too much trouble). The armors felt very different in ME1 and I enjoyed it a lot (having a Colossus armor actually felt like being a walking tank compared to the Phoenix one for example).

I also really enjoyed squad use. Their powers are very useful to supplement your abilities. Maybe detach cooldowns between different power types? Like switching ammo shouldn't put a cooldown on Adrenaline Rush or Warping a target shouldn't put a cooldown on Overload (examples). The ammo was a great idea imo, forced you to use different guns in plenty of situations (and all guns are actually good now and useful).

Anyway, can't wait for ME3! Holiday Season 2011 can't come soon enough!

Bioware hasn't failed me yet, and I'm sure Mass Effect 3 will be no different. But if this game takes place primarily on Earth it will be a wasted effort. Earth is dull, the Halo series made this same mistake by placing half the missions in Halo 3 on boring old Earth. You have this awesome universe to play with and this is what we get - Earth.

As cinematic as Mass Effect is, I really hope they cut down on the number of squad members so that they can flesh out the fewer characters a bit more. There's nothing impressive about a large cast of characters when they all barely have any lines (except for their specific quests).

I don't get it. How did the Reapers get to Earth.

The ENTIRE point of ME1 was stopping them from accessing the Citadel Jump Drive which was their ONLY way to get to Earth in the time period. Was ME 1 completely pointless then? Why does a race of immortal demigods even care about FTL travel when they can essentially just drift to the galaxy without care for resources or time really.

How the hell are they going to justify stopping the entire Reaper fleet when a single reaper + a couple of Geth was collectively kicking the ass of most of the Alliance fleet. Are they going to go the route of Stargate Sg1 where they get a laser cannon that can rape Reaper ships in a single blow when 30 hours ago Reaper ships were invincible?

Also, why are the Reapers on the ground anyway, an advanced race of space gods can't efficiently kill/reap a world that has a ridiculous large population denisty from space? Drop a couple of futuristic TPK devices. Only 7 million dead people on day 1? Give me a couple of nukes and I can do better than that.

Maybe its on a holodeck and its one of those "this is what could happen if they get here!" deals. Or maybe its all a dream, or maybe the first and second games were dreams and the reapers have already invaded. take your pick 😛

Any role she or the rest of the active allies from ME2 will have will be minimal, simply because they can all end up dead. Same problem as Ashley - making them significant means double work to account for the possibility they're dead.

At this point, there aren't many major character left who aren't at least possibly dead. Let's see (spoilered, just in case)

I'm thinking the reapers will be significantly weakened by the journey back into the galaxy, and thanks to the work of the prothens are unable to secure control of the mass relay network. They will arive in the galaxy with the races aware and militarized toward them, with their allies defeated. It's safe to say Shep has already f'ed with their plans plenty.

I do hope we get to see the Turian council member begging for Shep to save him from the reapers, only for Shep to respond "Ah yes, the 'reapers'".

Problem is game developers always like to change a few things with sequels,it can be good or bad depending which gamer you ask,I don't mind changes as long as it does not effect the game to a bad degree.

From a gameplay perspective, I'd love a return to the ME1 cooldown system where each skill cools down independently, but to balance that the cooldowns are extremely long. In ME2 I think it was like 10 seconds for a powerful skill, but in ME1 most skills were 60 seconds...etc. Although with ME2's new armor/shield/biotic system, the long cooldowns might not work that well. When you have five Eclipse mercs all with shields up and two of them with armor on top of that, waiting 60 seconds for Overload to recharge is just not going to cut it, especially when all your other skills can't be used against sheilded targets.

please please don't make earth the focus of the game x_x i disagree that ME2 was about how special human were. I'm sure there were reapers of many different types out there under construction.


But you know what, if they have the production values of the first 2 ME, bring it on!


I'm sure that not everything will be answered - like a user posted, it'll probably sum up most of 'shepard'....but there is quite a bit more beyond shepard happening simultaneously.

what about the geth? What about Tali Zorah's people and the search for a final destination for the flotilla (I gotta admit its been a while since I played so I don't remember the details)? What about all those little things in the game that were left somewhat unexplained? What about Rexe's path and a return of his people, in a less violent manner lol. What about the illusive man whom we know nothing about? Sooo much could be built up, especially in terms of the other races (where many beyond the big guns were marginalized much more). Think about all the repears alone - in no way will any of the questions you guys brought up be fully explained by ME3 ; I have a feeling ME3 will be more about defending against the incoming repear onslaught and only learning bits and pieces about the repears than truly about uncovering their past

Yeah I don't get it either. I love mass effect, but my biggest peeve is the inconsistencies between the sequels. ME1 and 2 basically have no real continuous storyline or development. They literally killed Shepard off, rebirthed him, gave him a new faction, new squadmates, an entirely new enemy... and now it looks like its going to be done again for 3.

Its not hard to get everyone through alive. I'm crossing my fingers that we won't get an entirely new crew again, I like the current line up. A few more options would be nice, but I'd rather they beef up the existing shipmates than just replace them all with a new crew.

I doubt it. If less than two survive, you die anyway, so there will be enough to go out on missions with. Beyond that, there should be some consequences for screwing up the suicide mission...

I expect a handful of non-ME2 folks (AshKaidan returns, plus some newbies) plus most of the last crew.

As for "how did the Reapers get there" -- Haestrom is probably a huge clue.

The developers said that if Shepard dies the save cannot be imported to ME3. You will have to use a non-imported character or a save where Shepard survived.

Thankfully, producer Casey Hudson was willing to give us the clear facts on what happens to your save file if your Shepard dies in Mass Effect 2:
"Dead is dead. Mass Effect 3, as with the rest of the trilogy, is Shepard’s story. If you have a dead Shepard at the end of Mass Effect 2, that saved game won’t import into Mass Effect 3. You can play Mass Effect 3 if you died in Mass Effect 2 of course, but you’ll have to create a new Shepard. Harsh? Yes. But we wouldn’t be serious about the concept of a suicide mission if you couldn’t die and your death didn’t have serious consequences."
