Mass E-Mail (4,000)...

i need to send out ~ 4000 emails to different clients. what companies have you had good experiencing with doing this for you? i don't want them to sell my contact list!!

no, i wouldn't be posting here if it were spam. these are current customers and are expecting a newsletter. i need to know who has had good luck with what mass e-mailing companies.

Do you have access to an IIS server?

Is the email you are creating an HTML email, does it have attachments, or is it just plain text?

If you know anyone with a bit of programming knowledge, it should be fairly easy for them to write a quick script to do this.

There are companies that specialize in mass-emails?

Doesen't seem like you'd be able to make any money off that, considering it's so easy to just do it yourself.

no access to an iis server, the email will have html and graphics.

around me, most isps shut you down if you send out to 20 or more recipients.

You should be able to find software that will send it out in a queue of sorts; you can send it out that way to one recipient at a time. You might want to ask around in Software or check at downloads.com.

but if a word gets back to my isp they will cut me off. it against their aup, and besides it is business expense. with the quantity in the db, if only 1 or 2 % biatch, that will be enought for me get hit. i am trying to do this legit, since the people know i will be sending this out, but all i need is a couple to compain to my isp and then nailed....

If they are existing customers, why are you concerned about complaints?

Additionally, using these programs you won't be violating the TOS, since you will be sending out one email at a time.

I've written a small program in Perl that did this. If your webhost will limit the amount it sends off, just have it do a certain amount per second or to do an amount of them and then keep like a second or two between the next batch. There are plenty of programs already existing that do just this too, you may want to search download.com

If they are existing customers, why are you concerned about complaints?

Additionally, using these programs you won't be violating the TOS, since you will be sending out one email at a time.

they are existing customer, but all i need is a small amount to complain (there will always be those that do not want it, even if it is only 25 our of 4000, the noisy wheel always gets oiled, no matter what you do) to give me some headaches. and the web/email servers that take care of the site/email for me say no, even if i send out 1000 emails with only 4 recipients each (which would take forever).

I can tell you this, even if I were a customer I wouldn't be after that stunt even with a 1.5 Mbps connection...if I were still on dialup I'd hunt down your family members

thats just a mail list....look up mail list programs set it up for only admin sends.

any program in particular you recommend? i usually don't send mail out to this many people, that is why i am a little worried about this.

The common one is mailman on linux...many many use that

We then use RT to view messages and archive them.

Just go download WorldMerge (I think that's what it's called) at coloradosoft.com and use that. You can hook it up to any Excel spreadsheet or whatever. I use it to send out newsletters to my association and it works great.

Have to tweak some settings to get it to go quicker but it works just fine.


EDIT: Just saw that you might get limited by your ISP. Can you not do it from a work location? Just need a mail server to put the setting in and away you go. Can put in a delay, send them slowly, etc if needed.

Somewhere around 3700 last time we sent something out...

You can set how many connectiosn it should use at once. If you set it to 1, it will just send them one after another. Setting it to 10 will basically have it try 10 at once and as soon as one completes, another starts. And I think you can specify a delay between each one so it can send one, then wait, then send another, etc...

I used this like 4 or 5 years ago, worked great then. I don't know about now though...
