Maryland'ers are wimps about weather

I go to school @ the University of Maryland but I am from jersey. I have never seen a state of such cowards when it comes to storms. When the weatherman even predicts snow, everyone is raiding the grocery store, closing school, and declaring states of emergeny. And with this hurricane. Sure I'd love to be off from school, but come on. Stores are out of water. You'd swear it is a nuclear hurricane or a terrorist hurricane.

🙂

We've had a few. I live about 40 miles off the Jersey coast...but that isnt my point so much as their terrible fear of snow...

What do you expect from white trash and black people????

And as for closing school and such - you go try driving a school bus with winds over 20 knots.

i can half understand the hurricane closing...but the weather guy will say; "20% chance of snow tomorrow" and bang school is closed and people are out stocking up on batteries. I mean come on. Even if the power goes out for a day or 2...people did at one point live w/o lights.

It's not that bad. I've lived here all my life, and while they're quick to close, its not even close to that bad. And to the people lived without lights comment...yeah, they did, but thats before they depended on them.

i went to college on the eastern shore of maryland (i, too, am from jersey) and it was amazing how fast they would close down for snow. and then throw SAND everywhere!
gaaa!!!

im so glad to be out of there.

oh and WTF with the "white trash and black people"?

Damn...it's all I can do, most of the time, to convince people that Maryland is in the South...I guess I won't have to convince you.

Yeah...i dont like the white trash and black people comment. College Park certainly isnt southern. ANd white trash...Montgomery COunty isnt near any of that...and then there is Columbia in Howard COunty...or Chevy Chase...there is some mad loot down here.

I agree. My sister goes to the U of M, College Park.

She has more snow days in a term than I ever had in my entire grad school life!! (ok I could have pohrased it better, but......_)

Baltimore county has 3 zones - White trash (Hereford), wannabe-black suburbanites, and black people. I speak the truth, at least for my little, annoying, evil slice of Maryland.

Harford county is like, half redneck too.

Well here at Clemson in the deep south, I can't remember any days that we missed because of any type of weather. But I have lived through two hurricanes one in SC and one in NC, and the batteries and water are good items to have.

Haha...good luck defending yourself from the "black people" part of that comment. Sad, but it's true, someone's gonna jump on your case.

houston shuts down when an ice storm comes through. more than half of vehicles around here are RWD, i'd say. thats about it though. hurricanes are no sweat. tornadoes no sweat. might have 5 people dead in a month of 100 degree weather.

Nobody's made a serious attempt at it yet - because anyone that watches TV knows I'm speaking the honest to god truth.

They make TV shows about Maryland? 😕 It must suck there for you to talk about it like that. Move a bit further south, Tidewater is nice and fairly cosmopolitan IMO.

Heh. No. Soon as I'm out of High School, it's off to University of Toronto - and I don't intend to come back once I leave the country.
