A match M-16/AR-15 is effective out to 1000meters (not a typo) oh and that's WITHOUT a scope.
I was a match shooter with the Marine Corps. if this guy has a good gun and the knowledge he can touch you from further than you think.
It being in the city though I doubt his shots were much more that 100-200 meters, but I haven't heard the details.

I hope they can this sick fsck soon:|

Interesting... with match ammunition/weapons. In a city though, as you said, there's really no such area where he could be 1000 meters away and have a clear shot though. I say we deploy counter snipers and put a .50 through this guy's head :disgust:

I forgot about the ammo, you're right, most people don't know how important ammo is to an accurate shot.

This is what is scary. How can you possibly protect someone? How can the president be protected?

I hope they catch this guy soon.

The reason the president is safe is because wherever he goes, they secure every building, street corner, and rooftop within a few miles. To snipe the president, you'd need a predator, guided missle, or satellite laser. :)

Catching a guy like this is really tough. He doesn't even reveal himself unless he's sure no one's around. They'll probably catch him either from a relative tip, or a plain-clothes officer who sees an attack happen.

Random killers are nearly impossible to catch, the run of the mill murderer is an emotionally driven fool, and kills someone they know.

The sicko serial killers are lots harder to catch, there's nothing linking them to the victims, and if the killer is mobile, it's even harder.

The killngs started about the time the movie Red Dragon came out...

Why don't they look up who owns these types of rifles and crosscheck it with who drives these box vans, and talk to those people?

SuperTool, we live in a democratic republic, if a majority of US citizens wanted gun registration, the NRA couldn't do a thing to stop it..., oh yeah, seems that maryland is one of those states where law abiding citizens have a hell of a time owning or carrying a weapon anyway-

In MD it is almost impossible for a non-resident to get a permit. For that matter most MD residents cant either. For those contemplating a Maryland CCW Permit, resident or non-resident, read Q&A #4 of the Maryland State Police Handgun Permit FAQ for discouragement......To add to this. On the Maryland State Police page under Laws on Handguns the following note is contained in Maryland Law about who and what may be carried on or about a person. Article 27 SEC. 36B This section is constitutional as a reasonable exercise of the State's police power. And it does not violate the Second Amendment because that Amendment is not applicable to the States. Onderdonk v. Handgun Permit Review Board, 44 Md. App. 132, 407 A.2d 763 (1979).

Packing.org Let's see, if I were a random sniper, I'd go where the people are like a heard of sheep & couldn't shoot back... & If all guns are illegal, I'll use a hunting bow, or stab people in crowds...

Anthropology prof used this as an example... human beings hate randomness. That's what makes it so frightening. People are looking for patterns but find none. You never know where this guy is going to strike next.

Well, wouldn't hurt to have a few cops on some rooftops looking for the shooter.

if this guy is smart, he will disapear now.

no one knows what he looks like, what he drives...from what I've heard, they know nothing.

I he is smart, he will go somewhere else..lay low....and get away with murder.

interesting to see how this ends.

If he walks away now, he could likely get away with it.

Lucky (or maybe unlucky?) for us his ego might not let him.

Well, he's probably being a lame CS camper in an urban area, so... on rooftops of buildings, perhaps?
CS, huh? I should have guessed.

Seconded. I mean, it's not like the police/fbi/govt. agency have the resources, or even people capable FOR sniping, let alone the ability to place them in random buildings to look for a needle in a haystack.

Even small police dept's usually have one or 2 guys trained to be sharpshooters, & even if they don't many officers just go ahead & buy a sniper rifle with their own $ & use it with the dept's blessing.

Classic rifle bought by officers is the Savage 110FP or 10FP, cheap & accurate...
