Maryland Massacre: Another Shooting

A child was shot going to middle school this morning, and some of the officers at that location just drove to a nearby Wal-Mart where there apparently was another shooting. CNN TV is following the story from a copter.

This is really scary...not even knowing if you're being targeted or having a chance to defend yourself.

Still unknown if today's attacks are related to last weeks. So don't jump to conclusions here until the facts are presented.

But still, whats going on in MD is freaky considering I grew up in Bethesda/Rockville.

Wow. The police will just have to happen upon the suspect, it seems to me - even though they have built a psychological profile of him, I can't see how they can possibly find the shooter until and unless he is caught in the act. There are any number of readily-available .223 rifles (most notably the AR-15/M-16 and its many variants), and at this point the gun and its ballistics are the only meaningful clues.

First clue is that the "sniper" isn't a sniper, .223 isn't a sniper round, unless you're a prarie dog...

I have a feeling the sniper's using a Ruger Mini-14, more easily available (you can buy them @ Wal Mart).

He's a sniper by definition of the word, not by the gun he used.

I would have thought he's using a bolt action rifle since they've found so few casings...but today's shooting, witnesses said they heard a quick *pop, pop*.

I sure hope the police catch this guy. Though I get the feeling that he'd go down fighting.

Psycho like this can easily spawn copycats. I hope he goes down fighting so we don't have to pay for a place for him to eat sleep and live for his whole life.

Seven people were shot between Wednesday night and Friday afternoon in the DC area. Five in Montgomery County, MD (where I live), one in DC, and one in Fredericksburg, VA. The woman shot in VA is in the hospital, the others are dead.

Oh Sh!t .. so there is some psycho walking around with a rifle just picking people off? In daylight? In public?
Maybe it's terrorists?

They're now saying that the boy only has one would, in his chest. Don't know if there was a 2nd shot or if people heard an echo.

I just heard about this around 30 minutes ago. I know they haven't tested the bullet yet, but I'm really thinking that this is too similar to last week's shootings NOT to be related.

I also hear that this may be connected to a terrorist threat. That would make it all the more... terrifying. :Q

I remember in SF they have a shot triangulation system that can find the spot where a wepon was fired as right after it has been fired, I will have to search for it, but it seems in these days not to be a half bad idea.

damn... if you're gonna be a serial killer i guess theres no better way than randomly shooting people... usually they have some sort of pattern but it sounds like this guy has none. anyone in the area could be a target... scary!

Why don't they look up who owns these types of rifles and crosscheck it with who drives these box vans, and talk to those people?
Oh wait, I remember. The NRA doesn't want gun registration. It's fine to detain and question everyone who drives a box van, but not those who own these type of rifles. That would be too intrusive

He can't be too far away considering the maximum effective range of an M16 is 460 meters, which must be pretty much close or the same with other .223 rifles. Be happy that he's not using a .50BMG. He could be 2 miles away with that thing and split someone in two behind a brick wall.

I can't believe they haven't caught this lunatic yet. How frightening it must be for people in the area, I feel so bad for everyone. I know I wouldn't be sending my kids to school untill this as$hole is caught and shot dead himself.
