Marvel Studios will be filming portions of “The Avengers” in Wilmington, Ohio and is looking for interested Wright-Patterson Airmen to appear as extras. They are looking for approximately 50 males to portray Navy Carrier deck crew, Carrier maintenance crew and a few pilots. The scenes will be shot Aug. 1-4 in Wilmington on a simulated Aircraft Carrier deck.

SWEET!

Did you have to try out on their casting couch first?

Navy Carrier Deck Crew = S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier crew??

Damn the avengers is going to be awesome. Why is DC failing so bad in their movies/universe?

Ryan Reynolds was a good choice for GL, but the script and CGI sucked.

Eh i was not really a fan of Ryan Reynolds. He was literally in a Marvel movie 2 years ago, there are thousands of actors out there. Find a good one and have him be the Green Lantern.

I agree the script and CGI sucked. IMO DC's problem w/ movies is they have so many people with an opinion in the editing room. I read an article they had about 10 people working on the final cut of GL whereas Marvel has less than 5. They need a unified vision like Christopher Nolan's Batman

Batman did ok and I like some of the original Superman movies, I also liked Watchmen. They should make a Flash movie.

Don't forget Marvel had a bunch of shit movies too (Ghost Rider, Daredevil, Electra, Howard the Duck, Fantastic Four).

Wat? Since when do Airmen work Navy carriers?

Oh I actually have a soft spot for that movie and like it quite a bit (it's been years since I last watched it); if they ever bring it out on Blu I will be grabbing it, but it's generally considered to be a flop and terrible movie by most people. I thought I was the only one that liked it. 😀

yeah, I haven't seen it since I was ~7. But damn, I loved it!

😀

but you do make other good points: Watchmen is easily my favorite comic book film so far. Batman is good, too--but none of the other DC characters have ever interested me. Superman is....lame. he was relevant in the 30s and 40s when we needed some invulnerable space alien to defeat the seemingly impossible hordes of evil arrayed against the forces of good (As we perceived them to be).

Marvel made their bones in the mid-late 60s, with stories that perfectly reflected the fears and social turmoil of that time. Many of which remain as relevant today as they were then. I think that since that time, the type of characters that marvel has created are more identifiable for the average reader, more approachable.

And while some of those films were dogshit--Daredevil, Hulk, Ghostrider--they were still pretty good characters and stories that deserved much better treatment.

I saw it in the theatre; my nice and gullible Aunt listened to my pleading and took me since I was far too young to actually go. She was good like that (took me to Rambo and The Fly too). Good times.

I do wonder if I will still like Howard, or if I was just young and dumb as a kid. :hmm:

In regard to The Avengers, I wonder how well it will work with so many superheroes in the spotlight... will it end up convoluted?

In regard to Green Lantern, I thought the movie would have been much better if the script didn't make Ryan Reynold's Hal Jordan out to be a huge whiner. I mean, for the first 3/4 of the movie, all he did was complain and brood over responsibility and such. I don't really read the comics at all, but an article (I think it was on Screen Rants) showed how the movie differed from the comics, and it was fairly substantial... mostly in the important aspects (Sinestro, Parallax, etc).

Wow, I agree KT. I totally forgot about Elektra, Ghost Rider and FF. Never saw Howard the Duck though.

I do like Nolans take on batman. Watchmen was pretty good as well. I think a Flash movie would be awesome. If they did Barry Allen i think it could work well.

oh, forgot about FF. The first one was rather awful--the 2nd wasn't as bad, simply b/c it had Silver Surfer--one of my favorite cb characters anywhere. it was still rather stupid, but they didn't destroy that character like they have done with Daredevil, Hulk, Ghostrider...

Watchmen was pretty good as well.

Watchmen was only good if you didn't read the graphic novel 😛. They left out a few parts that I'd consider fairly key to developing some of the characters. The Comedian's interaction with Moloch in his room makes no sense in the movie (it's based on the graphic novel's ending), but it is fine in the comics. I liked Dr. Manhattan's back story in the comics as they showed off his explicit logic-based causal nature... the movie, not so much.

Although, the nature of the ending probably wasn't as odd in the movie as it was in the book.
