I only saw the first episode and it wasn't all that great. Bad acting and story was put together poorly.

My Netflix started displaying German subtitles for various signs in the last few minutes of episode 1. Anyone else or just a fluke?

Pilots are rarely the best episode but it definitely gets better and better. On 7 now.

FWIW, I wouldn't call these bulk streaming releases pilot episodes.

TV pilots are always created as spec pieces--characters aren't really set, actors aren't set, and the contract is for only one episode. Sometimes, the producers and network will see them and put in a season order. Occasionally, the pilot will be broadcast and an order will be placed based on ratings and audience reception.

This is why pilots, traditionally, aren't that great. Characters, plot, and actors often change once the writers sit down to write the season, after the pilot has been finished. (it's usually something like the studio likes the idea, but hates this actor, or this character, something like that.)

Now-to my actual point: :D
--These Netflix and Amazon et al-produced series are quite different. The idea is generally pitched and the studio (I guess you can call them studios) will purchase an order of episodes outright, and set a budget for the first season. This gives the writers ample time and space to create a real x-episode storyline. Honestly, I think this is the way that it should be done.

I think it is also the case that the studio greenlights a project for x episodes, then goes on the search for the talent (I think this is what happened with House of Cards: their algorithm told them that the audience loves Kevin Spacey and David Fincher, and British television series. So, they got David Fincher to find a British series to adapt, and write a part for Spacey. something like that).

Moving on to episode four, and yeah this is awesome!

My one minor hangup so far is
what about the hitman's gun that jammed? You know, the one with his prints all over it that's likely illegal in New York? But I can chalk that up to the Kingpin's massive influence in either getting him a legit carry permit (very rare in New York) or otherwise "convincing" the prosecution to forget that piece of evidence.

Love this!

I take it you missed the part where clicky watch dude went and picked the gun up?

Man, I cant even watch it. A lot of people must be slamming the servers. Funny, but the only way to get my moneys worth from the monthly service is to download the show. I literally havent used my Netflix account in months.
