You guys still call this political correctness for some reason. I think it has to do with a business trying to capture long untapped markets. On top of that, you have more minority individuals working in the industry than before.
Far too often, OWMSJWs (not you, shorty) cry and bitch about "Political Correctness"! when the real answer is that it's simply business. These characters have long been reinvented and tested in ways that bothered their fans, without ever having been criticized as being "politically corrected." The precedence is already there that this would happen and will continue to happen; and you don't make new characters because these characters already own huge markets of their own.
You keep as much of that market as you can, then try to expand it into new fans that might not have otherwise paid attention.
*now, waits for OroorOrroo or boomerang or some other OWMSJW to bitch and complain that such fans are the real racists for suddenly being interested in a character only because it "looks like them."
Doesn't anyone remember Spawn and the broohaha when that first released?

Huge ass-tits, finally a way to make both ass men and breast men happy.Ever notice how comic book women always have really huge ass tits? I mean holy crap. How do they fight crime with those things?
I don't care.
Can they act ?
If it's in the comics, I really don't care.
Maybe we need to make Shaft white, or Kato a white girl.
Right, because whites were terribly underrepresented because of bigotry against them. Same thing as the other races.
If there's one thing the Thor comics have been known for, it's their slavish adherence to remaining canonical with the ancient Norse myths.

That wasn't his point. The point is authenticity. If a character is white, leave them white. If a character is black, asian, indian, etc.... LEAVE IT ALONE. By fiddling with it, you mess with the structure of the character. It seems like the big thing is to screw with things that were fine the way they were. Movies and comics just can't seem to do new stories or characters. They just have to change fundamental things about existing ones. It's pretty crazy how much money they'll waste to try to earn more....
I mean, they've already made fundamental changes and then retconned them in the past...That wasn't his point. The point is authenticity. If a character is white, leave them white. What about something like Marvel 1602? Should that not have been done based on your argument?
You're meaning to tell me you've never been beat up by a pair of huge knockers? They can hurt!something about tight clothing makes them hold still?
so your solution is to change the race and gender of long iconic superheros? yea that makes sense.![]()
My apologies, I'm not familiar with Marvel 1602. I'm guessing it was characters thrown back in time or alternate universe back in the year 1602? And, I apologize if it's coming off as an argument. That's not my intention. I'm just voicing my opinion on the foolishness of changing things that don't need changed. As I said earlier, it's their business, they can do what they want.
To be fair, it started out being created by a bunch of white dudes (and generally consumed by same) so I don't think you can really fault them there. You know, my first reaction to their changing is annoyance as well, but it seems unlike you, I'm able to appreciate the wrong of the history and have some tolerance for righting it some.
This isn't about 'this is their business' - if what they are doing is wrong you can criticize it. But shouldn't there have been a little diversity all along?

I don't know that there's all that much point in doing spin-off lines--of the people kvetching about it in this thread, how many of them have bought any Marvel comics in the last decade?True, but that was part of the larger problem - it wasn't like they'd hire black people to make them, and it wasn't like there was any interest in the black market (or others).
It might be better to have 'spinoff' lines though with the new versions of the heroes - not like they haven't done that. Can't please everyone.
I guess it's a little like the history of advertising - where mainstream things would be white people, and if there were minorities, it wasn't especially flattering (e.g., Aunt Jemima).
I'm guessing it is mostly a money grab in the face of declining sales and demographic shifts.
Two separate issues. You're trying to change the subject from claiming that whites have been discriminated against the same as blacks.
