After a week of speculation, it's finally done. The Washington Redskins fired coach Marty Schottenheimer after two meetings with team owner Daniel Snyder on Sunday. Schottenheimer is out after just one season of a four-year contract. Sources tell ESPN.com that the Redskins will name Steve Spurrier as coach as soon as Monday.

Is it just me or is getting fired from a coaching job like the best thing that can happen to you? You get paid the full amount of your contract for doing nothing. Marty gets paid 7.5 million over three years for sitting on his ass. Jim Mora is gonna get some good money also. Talk about a severance package. So what if their pride is damaged. That's a whole lot of money for doing nothing.
 
All I can say is thank god it's DC and not Carolina. I'd seriously hate not being able to root for thoe home team as I can't stand Spurrier. He is a great football coach I give him that, but he is an incessant whiner that grates my nerves.
 
as a saints/lsu fan, i'm glad spurrier is going to washington and not carolina. i couldn't stand that arsehole again in one of my team's annual matchups
 
My understanding is that Marty wanted Snyder to fire him, that way he gets paid. He was tired of Snyder wanting to pull the full Jerry Jones and be all in his business.

Spurrier just wants to coach, says he doesn't want to be a GM also. He may regret that decision with the little punk Snyder meddling in player signings.

so who does that leave for Carolina? Dungy? I think that once he's fired from the Bucs, he'll go to Indy to replace Mora. I was hoping that Spurrier would come to Carolina, just so we could win more than one game. Too bad we can't get Parcells...

Does Spurrier really think he has any weapons on offense in Wash? S.Davis and R.Gardner are about it....Banks in Spurrier's offense? I don't think so......
 
Great players make a great coach. There are very few good players in Washington. It will be interesting to see what happens next season. 🙂

As for Marty getting fired, oh well. I wouldn't grieve for him too much. He made $10 for one season. 🙂

If I just made that kind of money, I would retire. 🙂

Damn... I was hoping Spurrier would go to the Bucs so that they could actually do some offense instead of the typical run, run, pass, punt...

Marty doesn't care b/c now he is getting paid a few million a year to sit on his a$$ at home and watch football on tv. Snyder must have mucho $ if he can afford to hire players/coaches, fire them when their contracts are not up, pay them the rest of their contracts and at the same time hire new people. I'd like to be on his payroll and get fired so I can sit on my a$$ all day and still be paid.
Yeah..Snyder has had an infatuation with Spurrier for years now. Maybe he'll get the Skins visors so that Spurrier will feel at home.
 
Banks wont be playing for Spurrier next year.

He'd go after Matthews or Wuerffel before he'd use Banks.

Washington will go after a QB and a WR w/ Speed.

OKay is it just me, but the Skins went 0-5 then started to be a pretty decent team. Marty was doing a good job, just took awhile for the players to adjust or something. The skins have a decent team, it's not horrible by any standards. Snyder is an idiot

it's not about pride being hurt, it's about management trying to break a contract.

was there any really good reason for schottenheimer to be fired? he did a GREAT JOB with that team.
if he had failed miserably then mb he wouldn't a got anything, but they did break contract w/o good reason so he gets most of what they contracted for.
 
Unfortunatly, Washington will probably be pretty good next year, with a little wheeling and dealing I wouldn't doubt they'll come up with a quarterback like Bledsoe, Batch, Dilfer, etc. Put him behind Samuels now that he has had his growing year on the line, they'll probably draft another big lineman and Davis, Gardner, Westbrook(Healthy?) and Spurriers mind the O is looking pretty good. One thing Marty did do for the Skins was get the D going, a few free agents on the line and Washington is a 10 or 11 game winner which in the NFC East = champs. Then its just a crap shoot through the playoffs like every other team. Remember after the 0 - 5 they were 8 - 3.

With all that said, I still hope they go 0 - 16 because Snyder doesn't deserve to win a Championship, I hope he has to wait longer than Moddel did.
