He was on the Late Show and said that only meathead is qualified to be governor but he isn't interested in the job cause the state is broke and he wouldn't be able to institute all his social programs that he wants. He said the other guys (schwarzenegger) were to busy making there millions and weren't around or interested when the problems began.

mmmkay Mr. Sheen if your buddy gray davis hadn't screwed the state so badly then there wouldn't be anything to fix.

Davis just won an election and he gets threatened with a recall.. this is insanity to waste 70m tax dollars on this.. Issa is an the cause... he wanted to be govenor now he won't even be reelected.. I feel.

yup, its a right wing conspiracy backed by two thirds of the state....

martin sheen should put that "peace duct tape" back over his mouth like in that picture. he has no college degree and i dont think reading drama scripts makes him an expert in international relations.

well there were alot of snowball effects after it got rolling but, the point I make is; he just got elected so how can the recall be solid... it was formulated well before it was started...

How do you get the idea that its backed by 2/3s of the state?

Man, don't you hate when people express opinions that differ from yours!

sorry, its actually %58. CLOSE to 2/3.

only a small fraction signed the recall petition. it was funded by that bastard issa with a few million dollars, and its going to cost the state quite a bit more in the end. our credit rating got slashed thanks to the turmoil this bastard caused. our election costs are just uncalled for right now. partisan games for personal gain.

and the fact is, arnold has put forward zero solutions. i'm doubting he'd do anything different then davis. budget deficit = cuts, which davis is doing and making everyone unhappy.

as for the blame for the bad economy, the buck stops at the top, that would be bush my friend.

are you going to blame the bursting of the internet bubble which hurt the state more then any other on davis? or are you going to blame the power situation on davis when it was deregulated under a republican? and bush did nothing but protect his enron connections when davis asked for help with firc during the outages. and now it comes out all the accusations of wrong doing by the power companies were right all along. bush f*cked everything..thats about all you have to know.

Davis just won an election and he gets threatened with a recall

Wrong. He was elected in 1998. He won the re-election in 2002. That means he has had 5 years to pad the deficit. His approval rating is around 21%, and this is in a state that has 1 million more Dems than Republicans.

Some reasons why Gray is being recalled (from here

In the governor's first four years in office, spending increased 36 percent ? far higher than the 5 percent annual increase in the state's population and inflation.

As a quid pro quo for campaign contributions from state employees, California employees such as fire fighters and police officers can now retire as early as age 50, with 90 percent of their salary ? among the most generous pensions anywhere.

Although, by law, tax hikes require two-thirds legislative majority, the governor, by fiat, tripled the state's car tax.

The governor signed a bill to require employers to grant paid family and medical leave.

Most California businesses saw their workers' compensation premiums double and even triple, while increasing payouts, despite the fact that the number of claims filed actually decreased.

The state already imposes up to 9.3 percent state income tax, among the country's highest.

California's sales tax is 7.25 percent ? the nation's highest ? with some counties adding on even more.

During California's so-called energy crisis, the governor dragged taxpayers into the power business. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, " ? experts estimate that California paid about $40 billion too much for power in 2000 and 2001 as energy firms jacked up prices. Adding in the $10 billion of overcharges from the long-term contracts would bring the state's tab for the energy crisis to $50 billion."

Despite the governor's declared "freeze" in hiring, he added 44,000 people to the state payroll.

For the first time since 1940, California lost residents to other states. Over the last several years, many businesses left California for business-friendly states like Utah and Nevada, resulting in a loss, since 2001, of nearly 300,000 jobs in manufacturing alone. This hurts, because, in a state of over 30 million, with almost 15 million tax filers, 11 percent of California taxpayers ? those earning more than $100,000 per year ? pay 80 percent of the state's income tax, while the top 5 percent pay nearly 70 percent of income taxes, and just 330,000 "high-income" taxpayers ? the top 2 percent ? shoulder about 50 percent of the state's income taxes.

And yes, Sheen is an idiot, but I still can't believe Cruz Bustamante. Diane Feinstein said she wouldn't run for Gov because she didn't support the recall. To run while not supporting the recall would be hypocritical. Cruz has no such qualms. He's also the same idiot who used the N-WORD at a dinner during Black History Month. He was recalling the efforts of some of the old black labor unions during the early 1900s. Many of them had the word "negro" in their title. At one point he referred to one such unions as the so-and so "n*gger labor union." Hundreds got up and left in protest. But guess what? He has been forgiven for his faux pas by the likes of Al Sharpton. You don't reckon it is because he's a democrat do you?

"In the governor's first four years in office, spending increased 36 percent ? far higher than the 5 percent annual increase in the state's population and inflation. "

But, he was reelected.

"As a quid pro quo for campaign contributions from state employees, California employees such as fire fighters and police officers can now retire as early as age 50, with 90 percent of their salary ? among the most generous pensions anywhere. "

Recall the legislature but, it was a proper deal. Consider the years of service when you say 50 at 90.

"Although, by law, tax hikes require two-thirds legislative majority, the governor, by fiat, tripled the state's car tax."

Not so. The law was on the books already. We had a temporary reduction up until this year.

"The governor signed a bill to require employers to grant paid family and medical leave."

He was reelected and don't ya think that is a good law. It is sort of an exigent circumstance...

"Most California businesses saw their workers' compensation premiums double and even triple, while increasing payouts, despite the fact that the number of claims filed actually decreased. "

Directly related to increased health care cost... Davis didn't cause this, did he.

"The state already imposes up to 9.3 percent state income tax, among the country's highest."

Directly related to population needs... reduce population and costs go down.

"California's sales tax is 7.25 percent ? the nation's highest ? with some counties adding on even more."

Same as above.

"During California's so-called energy crisis, the governor dragged taxpayers into the power business. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, " ? experts estimate that California paid about $40 billion too much for power in 2000 and 2001 as energy firms jacked up prices. We have more here than Davis. We have lots of prior govenors and what they did that resulted in the energy issue.

"Despite the governor's declared "freeze" in hiring, he added 44,000 people to the state payroll. "

And how many left. What was the net affect?

"For the first time since 1940, California lost residents to other states. Over the last several years, many businesses left California for business-friendly states like Utah and Nevada, resulting in a loss, since 2001, of nearly 300,000 jobs in manufacturing alone. Since Pat Brown folks have argued this. The comings and goings are normal with the unitary tax issue.
Davis did not cause the Budget issue and the elements he signed into law suggest the entire legislature should be recalled too..
