delayed gratification study:

...

In follow-up studies, Mischel found that those who deferred gratification were significantly more competent and received higher SAT scores than their peers, meaning that this characteristic likely remains with a person for life.

We need to teach delayed gratification in pre-school/kindegarden!

Finally, nerds around the world can justify why their nerdism and lack of sexual activity until they are at least 25 is a good thing and an indicator of success.

needed to continue doing the test for those that restrained from eating them

award them their +1 marshmallow and give them another +1 marshmallow if they can continue to wait

see which ones hold out the longest until they decide that diminishing returns blows and chows down on their accumulated marshmallows

I continued to wait for more, for about 26 years. Then I retired.
I laugh at you all hippies working until your 60+ years old.

Actually, that seems to be the main point of the exercise. You clearly have no idea experience with kids if you think you can convince a 4 year old kid to do something with simple logic. Most adults are immune to logic as well.

What if the parent promised them a whole bag? Obviously some kids are capable of understanding the logic of the situation, otherwise they would have all eaten the marshmallow and there would be no point to the exercise.

I can't find anything indicating that South Korean schools actually use this test to any significant extent, btw, but it wouldn't surprise me considering how pathetic and needful the Korean people are.

A person's unfamiliarity with capitalization is my problem how? Besides, we all KNEW the context here was the Scholastic Assessment Test and not someone sitting down in a chair.

How the fuck am I supposed to magically know you call them ess a tees? We have SATs in England and we pronounce them as sats.

It's important to read everything with a critical mind. Realize that the other children may not have even understood what they were being told and, thus, it was just as easily their comprehension that was able to predict their future success and not their resistance to instant gratification.
