Mars is very close right now

Just went out to take a look... Out of about 8 visible stars in the sky (Chicago suburbs and slightly cloudy) There was a bright red one, I'm guessing that was it.

Since when was "very close" measured by millions of miles? Sounds like it's EXTREMELY far away to me.

It's 'relatively' extremely close, campared to its usual distance.

It's closer, not close. No matter how you spin it, it's still unbelievably ridiculously far away.

in matter of space its very close.
The closest start to our solar system is Proxima Centauri which is 4.4 light years away. A light year is 5,878,499,812,499 trillion miles. So in reality 46 million miles is a very close distance.
