Why would you hope for it to blow up. People in space shouldn't be limited to America/Russia.

Good for them, I'm interested on the specifics of this station.

China has launched its first space station, just as the US gives up its ability to launch people into space. Disgraceful.

http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Asia-Pacific/2011/0929/China-s-great-space-station-leap

I was hoping it would blow up during launch, but it looks like it has successfully made it into orbit.

That's very petty of you. Other nations' accomplishments do not lessen what we've done. I hope China all the best in their space endeavors and hope they can become a responsible member of the orbits.

China is our enemy, and their military is heavily involved in their space program. Anything that sets it back is a positive thing. The only good thing that can come from their space program is that it gives the US a kick in the ass and causes us to regain our competitive spirit.

And before anyone calls me cold-hearted, this was an unmanned launch. I wouldn't wish death on any man who's brave enough to strap himself to the top of a rocket, but I'd smile at an unmanned launch failure that left them the Chinese looking stupid.

This wouldn't have anything to do with the Rights new Call to Arms to cut all spending would it?

I'd like to see NASA receive more money, but the real problem with our space program is a lack of direction. When you look at how much money has been squandered on canceled programs (X-33, Constellation, various planned shuttle successors) it's painfully sad to see that we could've done something great if we had a goal and just stuck with it.

China is our enemy

Some people like to believe we are past such things.

China may or may not be our enemy, but our economic ties have made them a serious world power. They will catch up and become our equals. It would be stupid to attack them, it'd also be stupid to let our guard down.

Where does this leave us? Wishing them scientific failures IS petty. We're not actually at war with them, it's okay for China to continue to exist and grow. What we should do with China is attempt to understand them, and then follow a course of action that is most likely to avoid conflict. There is profit in that for everyone.

Considering China's human rights abuses, it would be nice if the station crashed on the Chinese government while unmanned (the astronauts arent to blame).

Yes, they're called naive fools.

I must pause to brush off those parlor pacifists I mentioned earlier. . .for they contend that THEIR actions are on this highest moral level. They want to put a stop to war; they say so. Their purpose is to save the human race from killing itself off; they say that too. Anyone who disagrees with them must be a bloodthirsty scoundrel -- and they'll tell you that to your face.

I won't waste time trying to judge their motives; my criticism is of their mental processes: Their heads aren't screwed on tight. They live in a world of fantasy.

Let me stipulate that, if the human race managed its affairs sensibly, we could do without war.

Yes -- and if pigs had wings, they could fly.

I don't know what planet those pious pacifists are talking about but it can't be the third one out from the Sun. Anyone who has seen the Far East -- or Africa -- or the Middle East -- knows are certainly should know that there is NO chance of abolishing war in the foreseeable future. In the past few years I have ben around the world three times, traveled in most of the communist countries, visited many of the so-called emerging countries, plus many trips to Europe and to South America; I saw nothing that cheered me as to the prospects for peace. The seeds of war are everywhere; the conflicts of interest are real and deep, and will not be abolished by pious platitudes.

Why would you want China's space program held back? Waah it's not the USA waah. We helped the world get to the point to where China can have a space program like they do. Humanity is accomplishments stacked upon accomplishments, boo fucking hoo if it wasn't your "people" that are excelling at the moment.

We could excel right now if we didn't have a President that was so anti-science. I guess since NASA doesn't increase the number of people getting government assistance it really doesn't fit his agenda.

God you're an idiot. NASA was screwed long before Obama as inaugurated.

huh? it's not the President, it's our entire country. we have way bigger problems to square away first, besides dumping money into a space program. i fully support it, we need to get off this rock, but we need to fix our foundation first. it might even be better to work with the Chinese now on this to help further us along for our great leap to space.

Follow the OP, and you'll see he is quite concerned with the Chinese military using this technology. Apparently they're on the verge of killing Americans with it, or something.

Well, I should clarify a bit. He's certainly not anti-science if the companies involved are creating jobs in China and supported by CEO's who donate a lot of money to him.

I guess one of those problems that was so important for the President to work on was Solyndra.. Thank god he took the time to pump 500 million into that company. I'm sure NASA would have just squandered it.

Oh, and we certainly are working with the Chinese already. Obama is making sure all his CEO friends that move jobs there get taken care of quite nicely.. so no need to worry about that Obama's got that covered as well. Its amazing how well he can multitask when screwing America.

Considering that climate change denial and young earth creationism are practically requirements for viable candidates in your party, you might want to keep your mouth shut about science. Just a thought.

Which makes it even more surprising that Obama is so anti-science. You'd think someone as educated and enlightened as him would support it. Then again, he is a Christian.

The thought of a red flag being planted on the Moon makes me sick. What next, a swastika on Mars? :(
